Poll: Voters Tie Government Fraud to Rising Cost of Living as Trump Admin Expands ‘War on Fraud’

A new national survey finds voters increasingly view fraud and misuse of taxpayer money as a major factor driving higher costs for families, as the Trump administration expands its anti-fraud campaign ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

The March survey, conducted by Deep Root Analytics for the State Financial Officers Foundation among 1,000 registered voters, found that 87 percent of voters are concerned about fraud or misuse of taxpayer money in government programs, including 50 percent who said they are very concerned and 37 percent who said they are somewhat concerned.

The poll also found that 83 percent of voters believe fraud or misuse of government funds contributes to higher taxes or costs for families either a great deal, 46 percent, or a fair amount, 37 percent. Just 14 percent said fraud does not contribute much or at all to higher costs.

When asked which issues should be top priorities for elected officials, 89 percent of voters rated lowering the cost of living as a high priority. Eighty-four percent said making communities safer should be a high priority, 80 percent said protecting the country from international threats should be a high priority, and 65 percent said enforcing immigration laws should be a high priority.

Voters also expressed skepticism that government is effectively preventing fraud. Twenty-six percent said almost all or most attempted fraud is stopped, while 66 percent said only some or practically none is stopped. Seventy percent said there is too little oversight over government spending and that more aggressive fraud investigation and prevention measures are needed, while 30 percent said additional anti-fraud efforts could create more problems than the fraud itself.

When the level of fraud being exposed is closing on a trillion dollars, this makes perfect sense.

So if we find, let’s say 100 billion in fraud in Medicare, Congress will then cut the Medicare budget next year by 100 billion right?....

Government fraud is the biggest winning issue the Trump Administration has to work with.

And Trump is right - if we eliminate fraud we can almost balance the budget.

It's that big.

One of the things that will end when GOP voters hand the election to the Dems on the fall.

Blue State Fraud needs to be the #1 headline issue going into the midterms. It has the potential to turn fiscal liberals into Republican voters if messaged correctly.

There are 29 state atty. general offices up in November. Immigration, crime and fraud are 80-20 issues. The answer is to nationalize them to put pressure on big city attorneys.

“...view fraud and misuse of taxpayer money as a major factor driving higher costs for families...”

And who voted them in?

The 14% seems kind of low considering how many stupid people there are.

All the GOP has to do to dominate the midterms is state the obvious truth, mass immigration leads to rising prices, so a two generations (40 years) moratorium on all immigration will be implemented to immediately get costs under control increase wages, and maximize employment.

They are 95-5 issues if framed properly. Envision an ad like this:
"Democrat Attorney General Soros K. Grifter allowed illegal immigrant fraudsters to loot Medicare for $1.6 billion since taking office. That's YOUR tax money which was meant to take care of the poorest of the poor going for $2 million vacation homes, fancy cars, yachts and living large. Don't let the Democrats defraud American citizens and the poor to reward their rich foreign cronies. Vote Chad Libcrusher -- Republican for Attorney General."

Don’t know if this can be called fraud or not, but I am alarmed & disgusgusted by the super-inflationary prices I am seeing on certain items at my local Wal-Mart. I absolutely refuse to pay some of these ridiculous increases & am not sure what’s driving them. I have read some excuses, but none of them are openly pinpointing the reasons.Walmart knows there is a theft problem because of various things in connection with self-checkout. They can rest assured it will only get worse. I really hope the Lord returns soon as that alone seems to be the ultimate answer.

Since much of the $ launders its way back to politicians, Congress does nothing.

We do not despise Congress enough.

For those of us on Medicare, I’ve called the fraud phone number listed on our EOB.

Two instances of labs charging me in 2023 for Covid work they didn’t do.

After fifteen minutes strolling through the phone trees and finally talking to a human, it was obvious he didn’t really care. No big deal.

Action? They sent me new Medicare cards. Oh. Thanks.
