US President Donald Trump said he was strongly considering pulling the United States out of NATO after allies failed to back US military action against Iran, according to an interview with Britain's Daily Telegraph.

Trump described the alliance as a "paper tiger" and said removing the United States from the defense pact was now "beyond reconsideration," the newspaper reported. He said he had long held doubts about NATO's credibility.

"Oh yes, I would say [it’s] beyond reconsideration," Trump told the newspaper when asked about whether he would reconsider US membership of the alliance after the conflict.

"I was never swayed by NATO. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and Putin knows that too, by the way."

It MIGHT work, as long as we win the next 2 (Pres) elections.. then we have to also be concerned about the house and senate...

Great news.Serbia,Libya,Kosovo,Ukraine,Georgia,Bosnia,Rwanda, Falklands,Chad. Feckless Western European folks have been dragging the US to lead and/or assist the effort in every conflict in their backyard and former colonies where the US has no vital national security interest. Consider the straits, the US calling in the loan and leaving NATO as the exclamation point.

NATO, which has evolved a shadow government through its agents of influence in the US government and military, and through its extra-military structures and global reach, represents an enormous danger to the US.

The sooner we are out of it the better.

President Trump is allowing Ukraine to inflict mortal pain upon Mother Russia.

As an enemy to Europe, Russia is out of the picture for at least 50 years

My understanding is a President can’t do that unilaterally, the NDAA (a law) says it takes Congress. He could bring a lot of trouble on himself if he even tries.

Not since Congress included the approval condition in a defense authorization act in 2024.

Deep State was thinking ahead.

Per the above...

“Section 1250A’s Prohibition of Unilateral Presidential Withdrawal from the North Atlantic Treaty
In Section 1250A of the 2024 NDAA (found at 22 U.S.C. § 1928f), Congress prohibited the President from “suspend[ing], terminat[ing], denounc[ing] or withdraw[ing] from the North Atlantic Treaty … except by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, provided that two-thirds of the Senators present concur, or pursuant to an Act of Congress.” Congress further prohibited the use of any funds to “support, directly or indirectly, any decision to” withdraw from the North Atlantic Treaty without Senate advice and consent or statutory authorization. Although Congress has to some extent regulated the President’s withdrawal from a treaty in the past, Section 1250A is the first statute in which Congress has prohibited unilateral presidential withdrawal from a treaty.”

Yes, NATO is a treaty ratified by the senate. To officially leave would take a legislative act but the President can do things like shuffle troops and hardware around. Probably close bases. Everything but actually quit.

If NATO bases are closed or limited by the host countries, they can add to the decisionmaking

We may end up with some bilateral agreements with Eastern Europe

It will be sticky with Canada ( who identify with western europe liberals) and the defense of Greenland and the Arctic and Atlantic

How is it UK, Germany, the Danes, Italy and France have not already quit by not providing their share of spending and active forces over the past 2 decades? We cut our involvement by 75% in NATO isn’t something the senate votes on. It is natural that NATO is fading away, the threat from Russia is near gone, they are out of tanks and tubes.

Yes and most of the members are in breach of the treaty which states they must all uphold and defend the personal freedoms of their people.

We should stay in NATO as we control it and for about 70 years it’s worked. I don’t see how losing a bunch of military assets and allies makes things safer. How about we just quit the united nations first?
