The Chicago Bulls’ decision to release Jaden Ivey after he made anti-LGBTQ+ comments caught the attention of TreVeyon Henderson.
The New England Patriots running back appeared to show support for Ivey on X with a slew of posts that contained Bible verses.
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’ Matthew 5:10,” Henderson wrote, quoting an X post that contained Ivey’s comments calling the NBA celebrating Pride Night “unrighteous.”
Henderson had three more posts on X with different Bible verses.
“The world said this about Jesus.
“Some said, “He’s demon possessed and out of his mind. Why listen to a man like that?”
John 10:20
“God The Father said this to Jesus.
“Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved Son. Listen to him.”
Mark 9:7
“Jesus reminds us as His Followers
“—If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!”
Matthew 10:25
“The world calls us crazy, but God calls us Sons and Daughters.”
Another one read:
“For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths.”2 Timothy 4:3-4″
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel commented on Henderson’s X posts Tuesday at the NFL League Meetings:
“I think there is a fine line. I want to tell you, I love TreVeyon,” he said. “I love the person. He cares deeply about our team. He cares deeply about his faith. He cares deeply about his family, his wife, the people in our building. And so, I want them to be able to express what they believe in their heart and in their mind, but also want to make sure that they’re educated and we want to be inclusive. Everything we want to do, wants to provide an environment for people to one, feel comfortable, but also to share their personal beliefs. And then also we represent the team and we represent the organization.”
When asked if Vrabel feels he needs to talk to Henderson or the team about the posts, he said:
“I usually try to. I think that’s something that we try to do constantly. It’s like somebody asked me last year, ‘How are you going to keep them off their phones?’ ... We just want to educate them ... certainly want to make sure that they understand that their actions represent something more than just themselves. And so I do think there’s a fine line. We’re always talking about those kinds of things. We’re trying to educate them. No different than myself or you guys or my kids.”
Henderson has been open about being religious, crediting his faith as something that helped him during a dark time in his life.
“Only Jesus pulled me out. I tried everything else, and it didn’t work. Only Jesus,” he told NBC Sports Boston.
Ivey, a 2022 first-round pick by the Detroit Pistons, had been increasingly posting to Instagram regarding his religious beliefs. A recent video he posted included his anti-LGBTQ+ comments which led to his release from the Bulls.
“The world can proclaim LGBTQ, right?” Ivey said in his latest video. “They proclaim Pride Month and the NBA. They proclaim it. They show it to the world. They say, ‘Come join us for Pride Month to celebrate unrighteousness.’ They proclaim it. They proclaim it on the billboards. They proclaim in the streets. Unrighteousness. So, how is it that one can’t speak righteousness? Who are they to say that this man is crazy?”
The Bulls cited “conduct detrimental to the team” for Ivey’s release, which the 24-year-old disputed in an Instagram Live.
“They’re liars, bro,” Ivey said. “This is lying. They’re lying saying my conduct is detrimental to the team. That’s a lie. Ask any one of them coaches in there, ‘Was I a good teammate?’ All I’m preaching about is Jesus Christ and they waived me. But they say I’m crazy, right? I’m psycho.”

Boy, did Vrabel tap dance around that statement.
LOL. I bet he hates to deal with stiff like this.
Here in Canada, our new Bill C-9 removes ‘the good faith religious defence.’ So, a post like Henderson’s might get one in trouble. We are so hooped.
Good for Ivey and TreyVeon standing up to this perversity!
Good character guys with talent. Talent without good character is, well, Johnny Manziel....

So that’s the rest of us?
Vrabel is Christian and certainly not a bigoted one.
Can you say the same?
The NBA isn't tolerant of players speaking out on issues unless their views mirror whatever position Adam Silver likes.
Oh stop.
"Not a Christian" meaning not a Tony Dungy-type vocal Christian who is up-front about their belief in Jesus as Savior and Lord.
Some people may hide it, that's their choice, but there is a difference.
And who said anything about bigotry? Or is that just projection on your part?
Mike Vrabel has been very upfront and vocal about his faith and has been for quite some time, He isn't hiding his light under a bushel. Coach Vrabel Talks About His Faith as His Foundation . .
So you'll have to come up with some other excuse for your profound ignorance.
