Stacy Garrity, the presumptive Republican nominee for governor of Pennsylvania, had the ultimate fundraiser this weekend:
An event at President Donald J. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla.
Garrity’s campaign, a GOP source confirmed, cleared six-figures in proceeds from the event, secured commitments for future fundraisers, and got some face time with Trump, who made an unannounced appearance at the Friday event.
Garrity, the state treasurer from Bradford County, has successfully cleared the GOP primary field of all opponents, guaranteeing her a spot on the fall ballot.
But she is considered a significant underdog in her quest to defeat incumbent Democrat Josh Shapiro in his second-term re-election bid.
Fundraising is one reason why.
According to the most recent campaign finance reports, Garrity’s campaign raised about $1.5 million in 2025 and ended the year with $1 million in cash.
Shapiro, however, raised more than $23 million in 2025, and ended the year with $30 million in available cash.
The official headliner for Friday’s event was Dr. Mehmet Oz, a former Pennsylvania Senate candidate who now serves as Trump’s administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The money and contacts will help.
But the fresh photos and words of support from Trump, the GOP source said, can also help Garrity in her quest to maximize support from the president’s base.
Garrity’s campaign posted a video clip on its Instagram account over the weekend showing Trump greeting Garrity, noting his endorsement of her, and telling supporters:
“She should win... I am very unimpressed with Shapiro. I watched him on an interview, and he’s a stiff. He’s a stiff.”
Reached Monday afternoon, Garrity’s campaign did not offer any further specifics about the event, but said:
“Treasurer Garrity held an incredibly successful, sold-out fundraising event at Mar-a-Lago, where supporters from across the country lent their support to her campaign to turn Pennsylvania around.
“She was particularly grateful that President Trump was able to join her, and make his voice heard loud and clear that Josh Shapiro is the wrong man to lead Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania needs a governor who will partner with the Trump Administration, not a governor who is obsessed with using Pennsylvanians’ tax dollars to take the President to court.”
The Pennsylvania Democratic Party, for its part, harrumphed about the trip Monday, releasing a statement that said in part:
“As Donald Trump’s failed agenda is spiking gas prices and forcing more Pennsylvanians to lose their health insurance, Garrity is spending her weekend cozying up to Trump and wooing MAGA allies because she is a disastrous candidate running on Trump’s disastrous agenda.
“Every day it becomes clear Garrity will always defend Trump’s agenda of higher costs and less health care as it continues to hurt Pennsylvania families.”
Shapiro is also unopposed in the May 19 primary.
