The IDF could soon collapse if there is no solution to the shortage of manpower, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir warned in remarks during a security cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.
“I am raising 10 red flags before the IDF collapses into itself,” Zamir said during the cabinet meeting, The Jerusalem Post confirmed.
IDF sources also told the Post that there is tremendous concern due to the severe manpower shortage, especially amid the ongoing war.
Even in peacetime, Israel would still need more soldiers – not fewer – on the border in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and the West Bank, the sources said.

more would be helpful but unnecessary with the modern technology...imho.
background, there is an ongoing issue in Israeli society because some of the religious studies students do not wish to serve in the defense forces... they say that their “service” to the nation is their commitment to their studies. The rest of society feels that this is not fair, that the students can (at least after a reasonable period of student deferment) serve in the common defense. The way the Israeli government works is somewhat similar to the English parliamentary system... where the leadership positions go to the political party that secures a majority or a majority coalition. The religious students have enough representation in parliament (the Knesset, or Assembly) that they can influence or swing the results on key votes like state budget, etc...... Several efforts at achieving a working compromise or meeting of the minds have not succeeded. Therefore, many or most of these religious students continue their studies instead of serving in the defense or national service alternatives....and enlistments (which are doing well in most other parts of society) are lagging as a consequence.
Send him out to the battle!
Not Imminent Total Collapse: The IDF remains highly capable, with strong air/power projection, intelligence, and qualitative edges. It has adapted to multi-front threats, conducted major operations, and maintained deterrence. “Collapse” here likely means operational degradation—failing to meet routine security needs, reduced training, higher risk in future escalations, or unsustainable reserve mobilization—rather than the army dissolving.
Political Pushback: Some coalition figures accused Zamir of “harming the war effort” by going public (via leaks), framing it as pressure on the government amid budget and draft debates. Netanyahu's office emphasized work on legislation but blamed legal/advisory hurdles.
Lindsey Graham is available.
And all this time I thought he was the master of the pan flute...
Thanks for that additional info. I was wondering who the Benedict Arnold in the Israeli govt was.
There probably is truth to this. The Israeli IDF is not built for a long-term foreign war. Netanyahu is stretching it to its limits with the Iran War. There are very good reasons for him to do it but it doesn’t change the fact that the IDF was not built for the Iran War, especially if it goes on for another 6 months and Iran is able to escalate its terror campaign through proxies.
Hezbollah is currently kicking Israel’s butt in Southern Lebanon.
Yeah sure they are.
He may indeed have some musical talents. We learn so little about people, especially those in news reports.
.
Zanfir, I think.
“Hezbollah is currently kicking Israel’s butt in Southern Lebanon.”
Fake propaganda alert!
Israel has horrendous leakage from Government. I don’t know if it was all made up but it just stinks.

There are 1.2 million military age Israelis. The IDF has 170k active military with 450k in reserve. If Israel needs more soldiers they should be able to activate or conscript to meet the need.
Somehow, with the recent significant increase in direct combat experience, I see a reduced need for training or higher risk in future escalations.
++ Good.
