ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY)- A man is dead after an attempted murder-suicide in St. Landry Parish on Wednesday evening, deputies said.
The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred Wednesday evening involving a man who attempted to kill his wife during a domestic dispute. The man then allegedly pursued his wife following a vehicle he believed she was in. The incident ended when the suspect turned a gun on himself.
Authorities said the incident began at a campground near Highway 190. The suspect’s wife managed to escape the initial altercation after suffering a broken nose and multiple bruises.
Sheriff Bobby Guidroz described the situation as an ongoing domestic issue between the couple.
“We understand that there was a domestic issue for some time with the couple, and it’s a really sad situation. Thank God she didn’t get more than she did,” Guidroz said. “She did get some bruises and a broken nose, but other than that she’s okay.”
Deputies said the vehicle pursuit led to a home on Janet Road, where the suspect opened fire on a homeowner and his son as they stood in the yard. The homeowner returned fire in self-defense, striking the suspect in the groin as he attempted to enter the house.
“The suspect goes to the door and tries to gain entry, and that’s when the homeowner opens fire,” Guidroz said. “He shoots him in the groin, and the suspect makes it back to his truck, where he pointed the gun at his head and shot himself.”
Guidroz also emphasized the importance of firearm safety and education.
“Learn how to use it, load it, carry it, and store it safely. You never know who may come to your door and what their intentions are,” he said.
Sheriff Guidroz said the homeowner will not face charges due to self-defense, and the investigation is now closed.
Good Samaritan, or new boyfriend that she called to warn, which could have been why he was ready for the suspect?
The article was not clear if the wife was in the car which was followed.
I found it strange how ambivalent the article was on that point.
I’m always suspicious of stories that don’t name any names. The guy is dead. Why not publish who he was?
His wife is not dead. His wife is not charged with a crime.
“began at a campground near Highway 190”
Homeless encampment?
Grok could not come up with a name. Apparently the Sheriff won’t release that until the investigation is complete.
This is not sad. The abuser intended to kill several. Got shot, then killed himself. She will be able to nurse her injuries and hopefully get some counseling. His miserable life is over.
It appears he died during the suicide but after the attempted murder.
