Few EU leaders will miss Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban if he loses an April 12 election after he blocked key policies, including vital aid to Ukraine, but they don't expect his rival - if elected - to fully reverse Budapest's approach to Europe.
Most opinion polls suggest Orban's nationalist Fidesz party, in power since 2010, could lose to Peter Magyar's centre-right Tisza party.
Orban, who maintains friendly ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin and is also a close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, has often infuriated his EU partners, most recently by blocking a vital 90 billion euro loan to Ukraine.
"This was the last straw that broke the camel's back," said one EU diplomat. "On our side, the hope to talk reason into Orban is gone."

“EU hopes Hungarian election will bring end to Orban’s blockades”..they said as they leaned heavily on the scale.
Good riddance to another boot-licking Putin lackey
2 weeks can’t pass soon enough
Can't have anyone opposing the fraud.
F’n Reuters. Orban is one of the very few European leaders worth a damn. It would suck a lot to lose him. I’m betting Soros is funding this so-called center right opposition.
It's worth watching on X.
Yep.
It should be required for every American to tour modern Europe and see what it's really like these and how the EU politicians and their insane polices have destroyed Europe.
A nice trip to the Muslim dominated areas in Paris, Brussels , Amsterdam ,Berlin, London or Malmo will shock the heck of Americans
The people of Hungary owe Orban a debt of gratitude but they will probably run the guy out of office and then Hungary wil being the same descent into
The EU figured out how to beat Orban.....eliminate all other parties that split the opposition vote and put up a single candidate that appears normal, but is an EU lapdog who will do the EU’s bidding.
Almost like a blue dog Democrat here in USA—Joe Biden who sounded somewhat normal.
Orbán does what’s best for his own country, Hungary. Not what’s best for the EU, Ukraine, the United States, Russia, or anyone else. In that, he’s much like Trump.
And one more thing. Hungarians have a very deep and historical mistrust of Russia. If Orbán really was Putin’s lackey, he (Orbán) would have been out years ago.
Here’s a poll that states Hungarians dislike Russia more than any other nation.
(The most liked nation was Italy.)

Yes this does appear to be the case. Hungary will fall to the EU creeps in a couple of weeks the way it looks.
Hungary used to be a member of the Warsaw Pact. But the Cold War is over. Hungary gets cheap Russian oil.
They're better off aligning with Russia than the EU.
The EU is not going to survive in its current form due to open borders.
The EU is funding orban opposition
Yep. Soros too.
Soros tend to establish ngos then they get funding from the government.
So you want to replace the one leader in Europe who has done something to keep Muslim invaders out of his country with an EU-approved stooge who will welcome Arabs and Africans by the boat and trainload. In other words, you don’t give a damn about Hungary or the massive influx of Muslim invaders into Europe, as long as Ukraine gets arms and money. I hate to break the news to you, but not everyone’s universe revolves around Ukraine.
Soros always uses front orgs. It is one of the reasons he has managed to survive.
