IDF finds Hezbollah tunnel near south Lebanon church as group 'exploits' Christian population

The IDF uncovered a Hezbollah tunnel stocked with weapons near a church in southern Lebanon, the military announced on Friday, emphasizing the threat the terrorist organization poses to Lebanon's Christian population.

The tunnel was discovered by the IDF's Givati Brigade in the Lebanese village of El-Khiam. The area had previously been cleared by the IDF in December 2024. Therein, three shafts were discovered, as well as mattresses and food used by Hezbollah terrorists.

"Since the establishment of the terrorist organization Hezbollah, it has systematically worked to exploit the Christian population in Lebanon and turn their areas into battle arenas against Israel," the IDF stated.

The military added that Hezbollah has turned Christian villages into "battle arenas," describing such moves as an attempt by the organization to "take control" of the areas while endangering the lives of the local population and damaging their property.

IDF: Hezbollah prevents Christians from fleeing combat zones The IDF also said that Hezbollah prevents Christian civilians from fleeing combat zones and has even fired upon them in their attempts to escape, further endangering their lives.

Yes.

These same areas were cleared a few years ago and the corrupt Lebanese government let Hezbollah rebuild their terror network. Recall the Lebanese minister on the payroll of Iran? $500,000 a month!

Lebanon used to be a largely Christian country.

Not so much, anymore.

Could they help arm Iran civilians to kill the irgc and moooolahs? Easier to control a disarmed population it appears.

Are the christians really christian over there?

Given that the lands around Mount Lebanon have hosted Christians since New Testament times, I would say so.

They can't exactly help the fact that they live in a contested hotbed of conflict.

You might as well say "Are the Christians living under Muslim occupation really Christian over there?" (as was the case for centuries in numerous places throughout the Middle East), and it would sound just as silly as what you just wrote.

I took not of this in the article:

“IDF: Shayetet 13 finds weapons, UNHCR markings in El-Khiam school
In addition to the tunnel discovery, the IDF announced that, on Friday, Israeli commando unit Shayetet 13 had discovered “hundreds of weapons” inside an El-Khiam school, with UNHCR markings found alongside the weapons.

The weapons included anti-tank rockets, mortar shells, grenades, launchers, light firearms, explosive devices, explosive materials, and explosive device mechanisms.

The IDF has intensified operations in the village of El-Khiam over the past week. The IDF told Israeli outlet Walla on Wednesday that the area has been used by Hezbollah for terror purposes for over twenty years.”

UNhcr markings? Say it ain’t so. Complicit?

Given that Israel, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq lie between Lebanon and Iran, how do you propose that the Lebanese should deliver these arms to Iranian civilians?

Yes they can and many do by providing intelligence to the Israelis.

Does the tunnel actually lead out into the church, or is it just "near"?

Thinking of Hamas' habit of storing weapons in hospitals, schools, etc.

I'm not ready to blame Christians for this yet.

I don’t blame the Christians for this, at all. They are the minority and don’t have the guns. They’re literally human shields against their will.

As to your other question, if you watch the video, yes, the video shows it starts at the church (or an outbuilding) and then continues in some direction.

It’s clear Hezbollah’s goal is to use the Church as a cover and then use the eventually necessary destruction of the Church and (hopefully, from Hezbollah’s evil perspective) the killing of innocent Christians as propaganda.

Lebanon used to have a wonderful Christian community. The smart ones or those with money have left.

I donโ€™t doubt the faith of the remaining. They have to be very faithful to stay Christian under the persecution of Hezbollah

“Aramean Christians” at an Upper Nazareth event, cheered a recent Israeli decision
to “legally recognize” their old-new identity......some of the Christians actually speak Aramaic..........

Aramaic....that is the language Jesus Christ himself spoke when he walked the earth.

Aramaic is a Semitic language that was the common everyday
language in Judea and Galilee during the first century.

I looked. It peaked at slightly over 50% during the 1930s.

Ironically, Nazi German assistance for Muslims (to fight the allies and kill Jews) raised the Muslimsโ€™ strength and drove both the Jews and Christians out.

And Lebanon rapidly became a cesspool.

Beirut used to be like Monte Carlo.
