A JetBlue flight to New York was thrown into chaos after it reportedly smashed into a coyote while taking off from a Rhode Island airport Tuesday morning.
A loud thud rattled the cabin of Flight 1129 after its landing gear struck the four-legged predator while roaring down the runway at T.F. Green International Airport in Warwick around 6 a.m., according to JetBlue and a shaken passenger.
“We heard a thud and then after the thud, we still took off,” passenger Erin Drozda told WPRI.
“We were up in the air for 10-15 minutes, and then all of a sudden the captain came on and said, ‘This is the flight crew. If anyone heard a thud, we hit a coyote and we are now on our way back to Providence.’’
Drozda, who was traveling with her wife, initially thought the announcement was a joke until they landed back at the Providence-area airport, where they were met by fire crews and other first responders.
“We thought it was a joke at first,” she said, adding that “you don’t ever hear that.”
The plane, bound for John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, took off from Rhode Island around 6:16 a.m. and reached an altitude of 3,700 feet when it looped back about 12 minutes later and touched down at 6:40 a.m., FlightAware data shows.
Drozda said the 50 travelers on board were stuck on the runway as emergency crews inspected the plane’s nose, but were deplaned a short time later for a thorough safety check.

I’m wondering what the logic is on just turning around and landing again, unless they didn’t bring the landing gear up maybe?
If the gear went up then why not just continue to JFK as planned? One way or another they have to land again, if the gear is up and secure with all green lights then the 12 minute vs. about 45 minute flight time would still require the same protocols wherever they decided to put her down at.
JFK probably has better emergency facilities, and they want to dump as much fuel as possible. It is likely that they did not want to stress the damaged landing gear any more than absolutely necessary by flying around with it down, and apparently the nose was damaged.
The big question: How was the Coyote?
Was the plane built by Acme?
Just HAD to get that bit of faggot propaganda in there ...
Safety to check landing gear right away in RI.
If for some reason the landing gear breaks upon landing, better it happen at RI then at JFK, because runway would be out of service disabled plane.
Totally ridiculous. When I was a kid riding my Honda 3 wheeler going about 50 mph, I hit and killed a big dog. I stopped to check on it and it was dead, but nothing happened to my 3 wheeler, I cannot believe a giant plane would have turned around for that. Ridiculous.
Yup! No relevance to the story whatsoever.
Beep beep!
Double ditto that. Runway 4 at LGA is expected to remain closed until Friday.
I guess he ended up in a heap. /s
It’s important to our leftist friends as putting that tidbit in there helps to normalize fagotry.
And what if debris from the coyote was lodged in the landing gear? You ok with that?
“wondering what the logic is on just turning around and landing again, unless they didn’t bring the landing gear up maybe?”
Probably standard operating procedure.
I’m guessing reason being there’s no way to tell what the damage is, so to mitigate a potential systems failure in mid flight with no where to land, it’s best to immediately return.
That would be my assumption from being in aviation maintenance for 36 years.
Safety 1st yes?
Just my 2 cent
The coyote was right winger and driven out of Massachusetts into Rhode Island
If that was true then it took a lot of guts to land the plane.
"You keep your problems at your airport. Don't bring them to ours."
Seriously though, they wouldn't retract the landing gear since it was known to be working at takeoff and wouldn't want to risk failure upon arriving at their destination.
Knowing there was an impact, you don't navigate out into the unknown when you have a perfectly good airport you just left.
They had the right in-fur-mation to make the call.
Whether there was debris in the landing gear or not, they still had to land somewhere. All that was accomplished by turning around was to delay those passengers.
Better they are delayed than dead.
