~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Camp Lejeune, North Carolina
Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune is a 246-square-mile United States military training facility in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Its 14 miles of beaches make the base a major area for amphibious assault training, and its location between two deep-water ports (Wilmington and Morehead City) allows for fast deployments. The main base is supplemented by six satellite facilities: Marine Corps Air Station New River, Camp Geiger, Stone Bay, Courthouse Bay, Camp Johnson, and the Greater Sandy Run Training Area. The Marine Corps port facility is in Beaufort, at the southern tip of Radio Island (between the NC State Port in Morehead City, and the marine science laboratories on Pivers Island in Beaufort). It is military property but is occupied only during military port operations.

Camp Lejeune encompasses 156,000 acres, with 11 miles of beach capable of supporting amphibious operations, 32 gun positions, 48 tactical landing zones, three state-of-the-art training facilities for Military Operations in Urban Terrain and 80 live fire ranges to include the Greater Sandy Run Training Area. Military forces from around the world come to Camp Lejeune on a regular basis for bilateral exercises.
Weapons Training Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina was initially activated on 1 January 1943 as the Rifle Range Detachment, Training Center, Camp Lejeune, New River, North Carolina for the purpose of providing marksmanship training to Marines preparing for combat duty during World War II. Today, marksmanship training is undergoing many significant changes that will empower the Marine Corps to successfully meet any challenge across the globe.
The II Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF) is a Marine Air-Ground Task Force consisting of ground, air and logistics forces capable of projecting offensive combat power ashore while sustaining itself in combat without external assistance for a period of 60 days. The II Marine Expeditionary Force is commanded by a lieutenant general, who serves under U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command, providing Marine fighting formations and units to European Command, Central Command and Southern Command.

Enjoying the break from heat while it lasts? It’s been a bit toasty there the past several days.

It’s going to be all over the place here this week, lol!

It sure WAS hot!! That was crazy! And I hear there’s more in store.
It was pretty warm here over the weekend but very windy, which made it feel good outside. Today was not so comfy. 60 degrees with stiffer wind to make it uncomfortable.
I gather it’s going to be a roller coaster ride for y’all this week like it will be for us? Up, down, up, down.

Hey there, radu!
Pretty much. LOL! Now most of the pain is from the tooth removal, which is to be expected. It’s still swollen, though.
Was it warmer there today. It was nice and cool here. Loved it!

Three years active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps (1964-'67).
After boot camp at PI my platoon went north to Camp Geiger (part of Lejeune) for advanced ITR training. From there, for many of us ... it was on to 2MARDIV at Camp Lejeune. Part of the Fleet Marine Force we were deployed frequently ... of the 30 months I spent at Lejeune I was deployed overseas over half that time. 2Med cruises, Caribbean deployment, SW Spain amphibious (near Rota) operation called Steel Pike I in the fall 1064 ... 3 deployments to Europe total. Great tour of duty ...

Sounds promising. If you can keep from biting it, it might heal before the tooth hole does. LOL
Nope, not warmer here. We got the same cold front you did. It made it up to 60 and the wind was whipping. Supposed to be a few degrees warmer tomorrow.

I'm trying to be patient since most of the pain will be gone in a week or so. I'm NOT a calm person. LOL!

Wish ours was only going up "a few degrees", but it'll be over 90 again. *sigh*

If it isn’t gone in a week, something’s not right. Mine was and all of mine were taken out at once. I wish you luck with no setbacks.
Yeah, it stinks that your reprieve is so short. At least it just a couple of days of heat before backing off to reasonable temps by the weekend and beyond.
We warm up again Wed. but not as much as y’all. And cool down again over the weekend.
These roller coaster rides are no fun.

Thank you for the great pictures and writeup on Camp Lejeune! My mom and I were there with my Marine dad on my 5th birthday in June of 1945. He was in a special gunnery training, prep for having to invade Japan. Thank God and Harry Truman they didn’t have to!

I can tell that it’s healing, but that infected part was pretty bad. I’ll be on the penicillin until tomorrow, and I can tell the difference, though it has a way to go. It’ll get there.
Just be happy with your temperatures. They’re so much more really springlike than ours are.
