Two Republicans Lead Race for California’s Next Governor as New Poll Puts Pressure on Democrats
New York Post ^ | March 18, 2026 | Daniel Farr

California Democrats were warned to get their act together months ago. Back off, consolidate, pick a front-runner or risk splitting the vote.

They ignored the advice. Now the numbers are in and the results are brutal. A new UC Berkeley-LA Times poll shows the 2026 race for governor is a total mess for Democrats. Support is scattered across a crowded field while Republicans Steve Hilton and Chad Bianco have quietly pulled ahead.

The data tells the story. Not a single Democrat tops 13% while the GOP contenders sit in the high teens. 16% of voters remain undecided leaving the door wide open for a historic upset.

You could have a R ahead 100 to 1 and they will still lose. Cheating is to Kalifornia like sunshine.

Don’t worry, California Democrats have spent years perfecting instant drive-up registration, mail-in ballots, ballot harvesting, non-existent ballot adjudication, bloated and dirty voter rolls.

It will need some effort, but they will remain a one-party leftist state.

Exactly, their ranked choice primaries were the mechanism to maintain control. They created their own mess - perhaps we will see one of the Rs get removed from the ballot for some misdemeanor or a review of signatures to get them on the ballot (they discover fake addresses or non-citizens signed roll).

The votes of the dead, illegals, Disney characters, and those without IDs because a particular race is too stupid the obtain an identification, were not polled.

Call the legislature into session, pass a law invalidating the jungle primary for this election for governor, Newsom signs it and Bob’s your uncle.

California conservatives are split between Hilton, whom I support, and Bianco.

Your pessimism is defeatism. Let’s just give up. George Washington never gave up when the tide was running and the worlds great army and navy was running against him. Thanks for your encouragement! NOT!

The Democrat front-runner Tom Steyer is running lots of TV ads. He is an idiot, promising lots of free stuff that he can’t deliver. He promises 25 percent cuts in energy costs, because he wants local government to force utility companies like PG&E to turn over infrastructure to local government to run. Yeah, right, like the government can cut costs 25 percent versus private companies. Truth is, energy costs would quadruple or more, while outages would be frequent.

Any Democrat elected as governor would lead to the further demise of quality life in California!

The dems will fix it, I thought to myself.

One or two dem candidates will drop out, either "for the public good" (money under the table) or under duress (a media smear) and endorse the "real" candidate (probably Swalwell).

Then a darker thought came to me --- maybe a repub candidate will be targeted instead. Media smear or lead poisoning...

Either way it has to happen before the jungle primary.

He is a real idiot. Have you seen the commercials. He even tries a “conservative” talking point.

The deadline for removing a name from the ballot has passed. Even if all but one Democrat dropped out, their names would still appear on the ballot. There are 8 Democrats and 2 Republicans on the Ballot. One of the things most people miss when talking about California is that the state is only Democrat in the large urban areas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento. The rest of the state is Republican. So even if the Democrats want to commit voter fraud they only control those areas that vote for them anyway. Personally I think we are going to end up with two Republicans on the Ballot for Governor and no Democrats.

Anyone who still votes for a Democrat ought to have their head examined and then locked up.

So even if the Democrats want to commit voter fraud, they only control those areas that vote for them anyway.

The margin of fraud in California is almost unlimited in the major cities and those are the only places that matter. In a general election, the Democrats can produce as many ballots as they need to put their favored candidates at the top of the list.

The only way they fail is if factional infighting splits the fraudulent ballots between too many Democrat candidates. That could happen. What real live eligible voters may want is of very little concern.

The courts will pull a Merkel and just declare the election didn’t go as wanted and call for a do-over.

(Merkel did this when I lived near Leipzig and a AfD member won and Merkel declared she didn’t like the result and held another election to get her ally in office.)

If one of these Rs will help California I am all for it. My statement was an expectation ‘they’ will find a reason to remove on of the Rs to not allow this. Of course, it will be something that the Ds already do and no one does anything about it.

I pray not
