In the wake of sexual abuse allegations against civil rights icon Cesar Chavez, groups began pushing to rename some of the dozens of California sites and events named for the labor leader.
San Francisco’s Cesar Chavez Day Parade has been renamed to the Dolores Huerta Parade and Festival, and it will be held on April 11, organizers told the Chronicle.
San Francisco Supervisor Jackie Fielder, who represents the Mission, said she “will support community efforts to remove Cesar Chavez’s name from any District 9 institutions.” Her district includes Cesar Chavez Street, Cesar Chavez Elementary School and is the site of the annual parade now renamed for Dolores Huerta. The Board of Supervisors has power over certain name changes, such as city streets.
Following the New York Times investigation published Wednesday, state Assemblymember Alexandra Macedo, R-Tulare, said she would introduce legislation to rename March 31’s Cesar Chavez Day to Farmworker Day.
Chavez’s name is on numerous Bay Area streets, schools, parks and libraries, and any site renaming efforts are expected to take longer and involve more discussion than changing the names of events.
***UC Berkeley’s Cesar E. Chavez Student Center was built in 1960 and “named in honor of the charismatic founding president of the farm workers union.”
“We are aware of the serious allegations that have been reported regarding Cesar Chavez. Like many in the community, we are deeply troubled by these reports,” Will Kane, a campus spokesperson, said.
The campus, which has “unnamed” at least five of its buildings when their namesakes were found to have exhibited hateful behavior, has a well-worn process in which any student, employee or alumnus can request a name review by submitted a written proposal to the campus committee that handles the evaluations.

Leftists really can't think, they can only "feel".
Nothing will be changed. Easy answer.
I’ll have to wait to hear his side of the story before making a decision.
That’s the goal. After years of hiding the fact, people now know that Cesar Chavez was 100% against illegal immigration. So the Comintern has declared that he is to be erased from the global socialist collective.
he feasted long and hard, like a king with concubine
got away with it, enabled, while alive
let the woke dummies fix it up or tear it down
Castro’s favourite activity was to rape virginal females after every meal.
Artie, you called it.

I was in high school in the bay area during the 60s when Chavez name was tied to sexual harassment more than once or twice. And you were called rascist if you dared to bring it up. Somethings never change with age.
George Floyd Street has a nice ring to it.
Have the ICE haters thrown any violent riot block parties in the Bay Area to boycott the USNS Cesar Chavez?
Chavez had vanished. A morning came, and his name was missing from the nearby street sign: a few thoughtless people commented on his absence. On the next day nobody mentioned him. On the third day Smith went to Wikipedia to look up something about him. There was nothing. Nothing on the New York Times, nothing on the Chronicle, nothing on Google, nothing anywhere. People on the street said they never heard of him. It was enough. Chavez had ceased to exist: he had never existed.
(with apologies to George Orwell)

What was good for the Stonewall Jackson is good for the Cesar Chavez.
Never meet your heroes
In this case, they’ll sexually molest you, and get you pregnant.....
Hiding the fact? I think it was common knowledge that Cesar Chavez opposed illegal immigration. It is much more of an issue now, so the knives come out for another Cesar, close to the Ides of March.

Will Army Street get its name back?
In Los Angeles, I would love to see Brooklyn Ave. and Macy Street get their names back.
