Republicans’ Worst Nightmare In Texas Is Getting Closer To Reality
Yahoo News! ^ | Kevin Robillard

The scenario long-dreaded by Republican strategists looks increasingly plausible following Tuesday’s primary election in Texas: Democrat James Talarico may face Republican Ken Paxton for the state’s U.S. Senate seat in November.

Paxton is heading for a runoff against Sen. John Cornyn where he is likely to be at least a slight favorite, though the final results from the first round of voting could shift expectations. Talarico defeated Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic primary, according to Associated Press projections.

Republicans fear the matchup could, at the very least, cost the party tens of millions of dollars to protect Paxton, the scandal-plagued Texas attorney general. A competitive race could give Democrats another pathway to the 51 seats they need to claim control of the Senate.

This is originally from the Huffington Post. Cornyn is the lefty Republican candidate, and Paxton is the moderate Republican candidate. Why would electing Paxton be a problem in Texas? Is it really that far to the left that someone like namby pamby Paxton can't get elected?

Remember, in 2010, when Cornyn was the head of the Republican Senatorial campaign, he went all in on Arlen Specter and Charlie Crist, putting money on them - just moments before they switched to the Democrat party.

I just don’t see the problem with Paxton, while Cornyn has always been an assistant democrat.

This is all part of the deep state trying its best to keep Rino Cornyn in the Senate by instilling fear that Paxton would lose to the radical Talarico and the cost (money wise) would be great.

Aren't these the same people who told us Trump getting the GOP nomination would guarantee a Dem sweep ?

Trump should remember this before trying to put his thumb on our Senate Primary Runoff ...

The vote to make Thune the leader was anonymous. Him and McConnell refused to recess the Senate so that the President could get all his appointments in and working. Since we don't know which Senators voted for these POS’s we have to guess it based on their actions. Thune’s support for Cornyn is the tell that he is one of those Senators that voted for Thune. Reason enough to replace him with someone who won't vote for Thune.

I’m not in Texas and I have no idea what issues Paxton might be facing. But I’ve seen lots of Talarico quotes, “God is binary”, “The Bible supports abortion”, “My favorite Texas thing is trans kids.” Is Texas that far gone?

NO ONE, here, wants Cornball.

People are/will be donating to Paxton, in droves, once all of this ‘endorsement/drop out’ nonsense is over with.

Have you seen all of the DIRT on TalaREEKo???

It’s only just begun, with the dirt on this guy.

Paxton’s a choir boy compared to either of these losers.

Why would electing Paxton be a problem in Texas? I’m guessing this.

“Paxton’s weaknesses are well-documented: He went through a scandalous divorce from his wife, a state senator. He faced a securities fraud indictment, and several of his employees accused him of “bribery, abuse of office and other crimes.” The GOP-controlled Texas House of Representatives voted to impeach him by massive margins, only for the state Senate to narrowly acquit him. “

The last time Democrats won a U.S. Senate seat in Texas was in 1988, when Lloyd Bentsen was re-elected to the seat (Class 1, the one currently held by Ted Cruz). Bentsen, a Democrat, had originally been elected in 1970 (after winning the primary against incumbent Ralph Yarborough) and was subsequently re-elected in 1976, 1982, and 1988.

We are taking nearly 40 years.
Not gonna happen.

Ann, look at the Cruz-Allred results as a guide. The media breathlessly reported that Allred was in striking distance up to Election Day. Cruz, admittedly not a darling with the average voter, won by nearly 9 points despite being outspent by $50 million. How Talarico overcomes the Republican vote is the question. If Allred couldn’t do it, Talarico won’t.

Cornyn has to go.
