America's wine industry is grappling with one of its most painful downturns in decades as younger consumers cut back on drinking and baby boomers age out of the market — reshaping alcohol habits nationwide. The trend has contributed to more than $1 billion in lost U.S. wine revenue last year and a roughly 6 million-case drop in production, according to industry data and reports.

And people wonder what effect Gen Xers have had.

Just kidding, no-one ever gave a damn about Gen Xers and we like it that way.

Maybe $25 for a bottle of low grade wine is a turn off?

Well if it’s going to happen, hopefully Greaseball Newsom’s winery is taking the biggest hit.

I like to eat grapes.

They can cut wine production and sell grapes as produce so I can stop buying grapes from Chile.

With all the medicine I’m taking anyway, and all the extra medicine I’m taking for the flu, giving liquor a break for a while was the smart option. With all the toxins already in me, I might as well at least detox from alcohol.

And edibles too!

Actually, both my son(27) and his girlfriend(28) do not generally drink alcohol. He did have a glass of champagne on New Years.

The younger generation are just not big drinkers.
They also are way more health conscience. Meaning, they don't eat fast food or all the delicious bad food that we ate. They also exercise on a regular basis.

Raisins! I’m big on raisins in lots of stuff. Cookies, cake, morning oatmeal, yogurt etc.

Me and a lot of my fellow GenX are drinking nothing or very little and not doing anything else except getting healthy

It’s nice te be able to do pulls ups, bench ~300, have visible abs and run 6 min miles in your 50’s rather than being slow and medicated

“Maybe $25 for a bottle of low grade wine is a turn off?”

Plenty of decent wine for well under $25 a bottle. The Vivino app helps taking the guessing out of a purchase. Grocery Outlet has plenty of bottles well worth drinking for under $10. Last weeks additional 25% off sale was stock up time.

That’s ok with me.

Though I suspect hippies and young fools prefer the now legal hashhish.

But otherwise I never understand the obsession with alcohol.

Was never a wine drinker.
Hated the taste.

Had a friend that thought beer was nasty.

I guess, to each his own.
