President Trump signaled on Wednesday that he plans to tap into the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve in an effort to bring down rising gas prices.
“I filled it up once, and I’ll fill it up again, but right now, we’ll reduce it a little bit, and that brings the prices down,” Trump said during an interview with Local 12 in Kentucky.
The president shrugged off rising gas prices as a “matter of war” earlier in the day and expressed confidence the market would settle soon.
I figured we’d be hit a little bit. We were hit less than I thought and we’ll be back on track in a pretty short while,” he told reporters traveling with him to Ohio. He also argued that gas “prices are coming down very substantially,” noting the increase is “just a matter or war. That happens. You can almost predict it

Does this actually accomplish anything, or will the Patels keep pricing gas at the level of international markets?
Price will come down as soon as it reaches the California refineries.
Biden sold off nearly half the U.S. oil reserve. Is it ready for a crisis?

Let it be. Tapping into the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve should be reserved for true national emergencies. Not for reducing the price of gasoline, or for scoring political points.
And yes, I know it’s been done for both of those reasons before. It still isn’t right.
No, it really doesn’t. IMHO. But someone will profit.
Admins never seem to keep the SPR full and ready for emergencies.
The SPR hold sweet and sour crude oil which must be refined and transported. The maximum that can be released is 4.4 million barrels a day. As a point of reference, we consume 20.6 million barrels a day.
“Not for reducing the price of gasoline, or for scoring political points.”
Do you want the Democrats to win the midterms?
Another bad Trump idea.
He should have a laser like focus on getting ships safely through the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz instead.
Don’t do it Don. There are no lines at the gas stations. Gas is more than available. Tapping the reserve-It’s what democrats do.
That won’t fix this. The war needs to end.
That will bring the price down about 2 cents a gallon.
The chances of that are near 0.

Of course not. But distributing gold from Fort Knock would buy us votes, too. I’m against that as much as I am against distributing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
Fort Knock in my post #15? Where’d that come from?
I mean Fort Knox.

“we’ll reduce it a little bit, and that brings the prices down”
It would seem you would need to reduce by more than a little to effect global oil prices. Plus as you said SPR is not full but only half full anyway.
Anything he can do to help would be most appreciated.
