A California inmate already serving life in prison for repeated attacks on corrections officers, including the murder of a corrections officer in San Bernardino County in 2005, allegedly attempted to stab another officer to death Monday at a Sacramento prison, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said

“Previously murdered a prison guard.”
Life imprisonment does not protect society, only execution can do that.
“Newsom got rid of the death penalty in California.”
Not quite accurate my friend.....the death penalty exists in cali, greasy gavin just refuses to sign any death warrants.
Last time I checked there were over 700 death row inmates in California.
Comparatively speaking, Florida has roughly 250.
We prefer the term “Corrections Officer”. Most of us have had as much training as police officers. Before I retired I was trained as a firearms instructor, arsenal manager and armorer. “Prison Guard” has negative connotations.
Sorry, pet peeve.

Why is he still on the green side of the grass?
IT COSTS OVER $100,000 PER YEAR TO HOUSE EACH DEATH ROW INMATE.
THAT IS OVER $70 MILLION
We have a few corrections officers here on FR.
“Prison Guard” has negative connotations.
A long time ago I taught at a juvenile prison, except it was called a ‘youth center’. It was still a juvenile prison. Our correction officers were called ‘youth specialists’, but their jobs still involved escorting the kids from place to place and maintain order.
It would make a great movie, if heinous prisoners were one by one, killed while “assaulting corrections officers”. The FBI comes in and finds that it is the death penalty being properly applied to those who deserve it. Plot twist, like in Death Wish, they move the officers to other prisons and bury the truth.
There is no Justice if there is no punishment. Housed, fed and clothed in bad conditions is still too good for the worst criminals.
I sometimes watch live crime shows, and perps yelling at officers that they’ll be out before the paperwork is done. In many cases it is true.
A guy locally was caught with 87 lbs of fentanyl. He got out on bail and was arrested again. He was sentenced to 3 years, served 2 and 10 years of probation. He was out for a few months and was caught with drugs again in large quantity.
He's doing life without parole for having murdered a C.O. in 2005, and has had other attacks on staff, so why the hell is this guy being housed in general population? He's a repeat violent offender inside the prison system, and should be permanently placed in special housing to limit his ability to attack staff.
I worked in NY State's prison system, retiring as a Sergeant in 2003. It was getting bad when I retired, and since last year, Hochul has been forcing staff to work 24 hour shifts because they can't get anyone to take the job anymore. In February of 2025, officers conducted a wildcat strike across the state, mainly over the 24 hour shift issue. She fired at least 2,600 of them, and put National Guardsmen in the affected prisons. As of February this year, there are approximately 3,000 Guardsmen still working in 34 prisons across the state.
Thanks for the Ping!!
Changing names of services, programs, and job titles is a liberal thing in order to make the names of those services and jobs more palatable.
My first job after graduating high school in 1965 was with Child Welfare in Rochester, NY. Then some liberal in the government had an epiphany, got rid of the word welfare, and substituted "Services" in its place. No more stigma. It's no different than the liberals wanting social workers to respond to 911 calls instead of police who have historically always handled those calls.
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation was previously California Department of Corrections, but they had to add the word Rehabilitation to make it look like it was actually doing something. Same thing with New York State Department of Correctional Services. That's what it was called for the 25 years I worked in uniform there. Now it's Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. It's all BS...just done for appearance sake.
Right there with ya.
I was a sworn deputy, and later a corrections officer. I have seen sworn LEOs refuse to enter a cell block with me.
I just read recently the CA Supreme Court ditched executions in the 70s.
Looks like you are correct, and I am partially right too...
Needs to serve the rest of his time at Pelican Bay.
People see “Prison Guards” and think Jimmy Cagney and Edward G. Robinson movies, plus a truckload of negative depictions in film and TV. The C/O is rarely the good guy. He’s usually a 2 dimensional antagonist.

Yup, been there too.
I’ve seen street cops saying they couldn’t do our jobs in one breath and demean it in the next.
