As the United States continues to strike Iran roughly 10 days since ordered by President Donald Trump, questions about how long the war may last have been coupled with the prospect of a military draft that administration officials admit remains "on the table.”
Six U.S. soldiers have been killed in the war that Trump has continually defended on the backdrop of what he and other senior officials have attributed to “an imminent threat” posed by Iran towards the U.S., Israel and other Middle East nations. The potential length of this conflict has drawn many assumptions, as Trump has floated a “4-5 weeks” duration while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has been more clandestine in presenting any particular timeframe due to not giving away U.S. military strategies.
That, in turn, has led to questions of whether U.S. troops could ultimately be on the ground in Iran due to airstrikes historically not providing enough military might over time for sustainability.
On Sunday, Fox Business’ Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartiromo asked White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt about the prospect of Americans not enlisted in the U.S. military being forced to fight overseas.
“Mothers out there are worried that we’re going to have a draft, that they’re going to see their sons and daughters get involved in this,” Bartiromo said. “What do you want to say about the president’s plans for troops on the ground? As we know, it’s been largely an air campaign up until now.”
“It has been, and it will continue to be,” Leavitt said. “President Trump wisely does not remove options off of the table. I know a lot of politicians like to do that quickly, but the president as commander in chief wants to continue to assess the success of this military operation."

on the table

offered for discussion:
“our offer remains on the table”
LOL!
It’s shtick.
There will be no draft.
And in the off chance there was, I predict there would be substantial non-compliance. Approx 30-50%.
Everything is always on the table. That’s just how Trump does business.
We aren’t going to invade Iran. Or Greenland. There isn’t going to be a draft.
Everything is always ‘on the table’ with Trump.
Unbunch your panties.
This is an absolutely crap article. Crap articles always omit something, this one omits the fact the draft will never be definitively ruled out. No president will ever do that. Yesterday Trump said the war might be wrapping up.
On the contrary - Trump specifically said - ‘no’.
Yet this article states ‘it’s on the table’ by an unnamed/anonymous military official.
The media sucks. They thrive off of sensationalism and lies.
Find me the quote that says the draft is on the table from the Trump admin. If you can’t, then you are as big a lying SoS as the your leftist fellow travelers at Military.com
You should be more worried about putin drafting you into his misbegotten invasion of Ukraine.
“On the table” makes it sound like its being considered. Why not just say that no such plans are under consideration? Its not an unequivocal ‘no’ but it implies that there’s no need to consider it at this time. JMHO
Need more troops, increase pay and benefits.
Bingo. Everything is always on the table. That’s what the Pentagon does. “Will the USA nuke Bhutan?” “Will troops invade Ottawa?”
“It is on the table.”
Your TDS have you wishing for failure. Sad world you live in.
The last U.S. draft inductions occurred in 1973, and the authority for conscription expired then.
No draft in any of the big Gulf Wars, why the heck would there be a draft for an air bombing war?
fortunately, the article is as phony as the poster who posted it. Left wing agitprop
I wonder what percentage of young guys today could successfully complete the recruit training I completed back then.
Compliance would be normal, what people think and say would be different once a draft became law and severe penalties imposed.
There will be no draft - the public would never support it (or any boots on the ground in Iran), and last I heard the military is exceeding its recruitment targets under Trump. There was no need for Leavitt to even raise this as a talking point for Trump’s enemies.
This is not the first time an article intended to cause support for Trump to crash has appeared in this source. There are people there with bad TDS.
We’ve devolved into a nation of cowards. I remember having a conversation with a Chinese co-worker about military service and the draft. I served 8 years in the submarine service. At the time of our conversation, China had a draft, but the U.S. did not.
She asked me why we didn’t have a draft and I said in a free society, especially the U.S., there would always be sufficient numbers of men willing to enlist voluntarily to fight in a war if the nation was attacked or threatened. I pointed to my enlistment during Vietnam and the surge of enlistments during 9-11. She said that would never happen in China. I smugly agreed.
Now, I’m not so sure.
