Several current and former members of Congress are suing to secure retroactive pay raises, drawing scorn from at least one fiscal conservative in the institution.
"Corrupt Washington politicians, including Democrat James E. Clyburn are suing for retroactive congressional pay raises that could cost taxpayers MILLIONS of dollars!!" Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., who is running for S.C. governor, wrote on social media last week. "With $38 TRILLION in debt, Congress doesn’t deserve a raise! Enough is enough!"
The National Taxpayers Union Foundation wrote a piece elaborating on the details of the effort for retroactive pay hikes.
"Represented by former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, Jim Clyburn (D-SC), Rick Crawford (R-AR), Steny Hoyer (D-MD), former Reps. Rodney Davis (R-IL), Tom Davis (R-VA), Ed Perlmutter (D-CO), and former Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) are suing taxpayers for retroactive pay hikes that could add tens of millions—and potentially far more—to federal liabilities," according to the organization.
The NTUF said the plaintiffs are arguing that "annual votes since 1992 to block automatic cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) for members of Congress violated the 27th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution."
The suit was filed in 2024. You can read the complaint here.

Parasites all.
The real beginning of the Tea Party Movement happened in the 1980’s. The scumbag Congress voted itself a massive 50% pay raise at 3am one morning. When we woke to the news, talk radio was fuming. A caller to Talk host Roy Fox on WXYT in Detroit suggested we send envelopes with tea bags to our Congressman. Fox jumped on it and called every talker he knew.
Within days, millions of tea bags made their way to DC. Congressmen complained that we had a voice and were showing our anger. And it worked, they turned the pay raise down.
I heard the original call on the radio and sent my tea bag to my congressrat day One.
It was Harry Truman who once said...”show me a man who gets rich in politics and I’ll show you a crook”.
This should be a “Boston Tea Party” moment.
How dare those bastards demand another dime!!!!
Let’s see them stand up at a town hall meeting and suggest they receive a retroactive pay raise. I can smell the tar heating up from here.
An honest non-partisan reading of the full Declaration of Independence replacing the words King and Parliament with President and Congress will show you exactly where we are today.
They’re “suing taxpayers???”
Congress refuses to budget and pass necessary bills but they want to sue us for a raise???

"The Great Collapse" can't be far off.
The national debt will be $40 trillion in a couple of months, our greatest enemy is the uniparty Congress. Always has been and always will be.
Most of them come out wealthy, these must be the ones that are “too stupid to steal” effectively.
If you don’t like the pay don’t take the job.
If the boss is a jerk, you should have enough to pay your bills if you quit. I once had a boss yell at me, and I told him it was my last day since he didn’t like my work. He was like what, to which I said you are yelling at me and not happy with my work. He apologized which his son said he never does.
My coworker said he could not believe what I did. I told my coworker that if I quit I could pay my bills for several years if I didn’t get another job. He looked at me with a shock on his face. To which I said I don’t need to take that negativity home to my family. I am there to work not be a punching board for the boss.
So, I say If you don’t like the pay go find another job.
That’s an interesting story. I never heard that before. I immediately became a Tea Party member and went to the first rally in CT. I was ready as loathsome fake Republican Lowell Weicker just imposed an income tax on Ct.
They can get rich off of the kickbacks they earn from lobbyists and foreign agents. Like they do...
Who is surprised Congressmen and women are voting for more debt?
THE ONLY EMPLOYEES WHO CAN VOTE THEIR OWN PAY RATES.
TOTALLY DISGUSTING
Good god, make your money the old fashioned way, congress: insider trading, kickpacks, and theft. Leave the taxpayers alone!
Good grief, Cuccinelli must be really hard-up for work these days.
They’re probably PO’ed that they didn’t get in on the Minnesota welfare fraud.
