A report for Iran International has revealed that American forces involved in Operation Epic Fury notified an Iranian warship twice that an attack was impending and advised the Iranian sailors to abandon the vessel, the outlet published on Saturday.
An Iranian sailor who was killed when the warship Dena was struck by the US near Sri Lanka had called his father shortly beforehand, saying American forces had issued two warnings for the crew to abandon the vessel, a source close to the family told Iran International.
The Iranian navy warship's commander refused to allow the crew to abandon Dena despite the imminent threat, the source added. The sailor’s father said some crew members argued with the commander, and the 32 crew members who survived were mainly sailors who managed to escape on lifeboats, according to the source.
A US submarine torpedoed Dena in the Indian Ocean on Wednesday, about 19 nautical miles from the southern Sri Lankan port of Galle, killing dozens of sailors and significantly expanding Washington’s campaign against Iran’s naval forces.
The sinking of the Dena — described by US War Secretary Pete Hegseth as a “quiet death” — marked the first time since World War II that the United States had torpedoed an enemy warship.

The outlet has cited testimony from and individual close to the family of a deceased sailor aboard the IRIS Dena. The family member claimed that the sailor had called his father shortly before the torpedoes were launched. The commander of the vessel reportedly forbade crewmembers from abandoning the vessel, leading to an argument on the ship.
The Department of War released footage of the sinking of the Dena on Wednesday, after the ship was hit by torpedoes from an American submarine.

U.S. officials have now confirmed that a submarine with the U.S. Navy was responsible for the targeting this morning of the Iranian frigate, IRIS Dena, in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Sri Lanka. Over 100 sailors of the Iranian Navy remain missing following the attack, with only 32 being rescued by the Sri Lankan Navy.

32 of the survivors were rescued by the Sri Lankan Navy. Many on the Left jumped on the sinking of the ship, labeling the move as a “war crime” since the American submarine did not conduct rescue operations for the Iranian sailors. They have conveniently ignored that the Iranian ship was a legitimate target, and that submarines lack the necessary capabilities to conduct widespread rescue operations. INDOPACOM has indicated that they coordinated with Sri Lankan forces to provide aid those aboard the Dena as well.
🚫 Iran claims IRIS Dena was unarmed - FALSE
✅ Law of Armed Conflict authorized the use of force to target and destroy valid military targets - TRUE
✅ U.S. forces planned for and Sri Lanka provided life-saving support to survivors in accordance with the Law of Armed Conflict - TRUE

With this new report, it is clear that American forces gave the Iranians every chance possible to save their own lives. That fact will remind the world of the morality of the United States, so don’t be surprised when it gets memory-holed.

The guy who called his dad could not have done it from out to see could he?
War is ugly. Mostly the innocents die just doing their job. That is what war is.
The Iranians were hearing Asleep in the Deep on the radio but they still didn’t get the hint.

Modern coastal cell towers can reach 20–30 nautical miles under good conditions. The ship was 19 nautical miles from Sri Lanka.
If this was true we would have announced it because it woulda made us look decent
Maybe Pete was playing a game of gotcha with the left.
If he announced it to the press, then they would counter with the sub should have given the ship more time to comply.
The sub errored in giving a warning. This allowed the sailors to gather on deck and be filmed before the ship was shot at. This made them more sympathic.
The sub commander should be stripped of rank. He put his crew’s life in danger and made the Navy look bad.
“The guy who called his dad could not have done it from out to see could he?”
They were forty miles from shore. If there was a cell antenna close enough, yes. The ship itself might have had a cell antenna. It depends on how the Iranian navy communicates. American vessels and planes are all networked, though probably not on cell phone frequencies and protocols.
Why?
An Iranian sailor who was killed when the warship Dena was struck by the US near Sri Lanka had called his father shortly beforehand, saying American forces had issued two warnings for the crew to abandon the vessel, a source close to the family told Iran International....
Pure BS..
“The guy who called his dad could not have done it from out to see could he?”
This is the 21st century we have voice comms pole to pole. I routinely call home from the Gulf of America via Iridium and Starlink Mini via Ocean Mode. My brother used to call from Iraq in 2005 via the same Iridium phone. The whole planet is covered with not only voice but data , with Starlink or Iridium you can get email, websites, voice anywhere on this planet.
Welcome to the 21st century.
Seriously. It’s not hard. People who go to sea take sat phones. INMARSAT, Iridium, Starlink Mini all work in the Indian Ocean and any ocean for that matter.
In the Middle East and Asian market you can get the UAE version that’s a smart phone with built-in sat comms it just works everywhere under their GEO birds 2/3s of the planet they don’t have one over North America the rest of the planet is covered.

When I go to the GOA or Africa I always take not only Iridium but now my Starlink Mini comes with global roaming and ocean mode too.
Again welcome to the 21st century it’s a good one.
Do you really think he took that shot without authorization from a higher authority?
I find it hard to believe that a reporter hunted down and found the father of a sailor who called him and told his dad that Americans warned them twice to abandon ship before it was attacked....that was the pure BS part.
I’m aware of technology although my shipbard days 40+ years required a written letter. Somthing todays youth are incapable of.
This gives the idea of how much of the planet is covered by sat comms
This is the UAE based sat phone company public coverage map. They sell a sleeve that turns a regular phone into a sat comm and sat based Wi-Fi hotspot too. Enable Wi-Fi calling and you can call from and too anywhere in the map below

Here is Starlink the ocean’s from 12 nm out are covered from pole to pole that’s everywhere in black you just need to turn on ocean mode from the app on your phones Wi-Fi which connects to the mini automatically even if your service is off it will connect to the network and ask for you to enable ocean mode. That’s 50 gigs per month of 5G level dataspeeds anywhere on this planet’s Ocean. You can buy more gigs or go unlimited as well. I have used Wi-Fi calling to T-Mobile from well over 100 miles into the Gulf and whatsapp video calls too.
Iridium is pricy but I own the phone from my Africa days and you can buy prepaid SIM cards for it in a per min basis it just works anywhere all the time you see the sky it works. There is no coverage map for Iridium it’s literally the while globe and data too again by the megabyte.
Starlink mini is killing their market share and Starlink direct to cell means it’s obsolete once that goes global. D2C is live in North America for T-Mobile top tier plans , you can make WhatsApp calls anywhere you see the sky, text and MMS is live buy voice is app based only right now again WhatsApp works, so does Google voice calls in and out, Textnow works too again in and out you need to set up your phone to fall back to T-Satellite as the network when it losses terrestrial. It’s automatic for new top end phones basically a S25 or above.
It’s also possible the father came to the media himself no need to track him down. Do not underestimate how happy the Persian people are that we are regime change for them. Every one I know is ecstatic especially the women.
I was with a group of Kurdish and Persians two nights ago at Al Amir smoking hooka large group mixed company my former undergrad is married to a Persian woman her brother’s all want to go back and rebuild once the regime is gone. This is a once in two generations opportunity. POTUS is right only full surrender and regime change is going to be acceptable.
