The Trump administration will continue working to shrink the size of the federal workforce after already shedding more than 300,000 employees, a White House official said on Thursday, who suggested a leaner civil service will be more effective as a result of its reduced stability.
Continuing to reduce the size of the federal government and its workforce remains “priority number one,” Office of Management and Budget Deputy Director for Management Eric Ueland said at a government efficiency conference in Washington, adding it would contribute to the goal of tackling waste, fraud and abuse. He pledged that individual agencies would ensure consistent and transparent communication on their plans, so employees would at least have a clear roadmap of what is to come even if they disagree with the destination.
“At the end of the day, if they walk away, even if they disagree with that goal, even if they disagree with that reorganization, even if they disagree with the potentiality that there may no longer be an opportunity for them to serve inside the federal government,” Ueland said, “that we have been very clear and we have communicated responsibly and expansively with them, so that they at least appreciate and understand where it is that we're going and what it is we're trying to do.”

The last DOGE update was on October 3, 2025.
Military folks worked around a lot of them. They did absolutely nothing. Too many couldn’t work on the outside. Closest thing to being on welfare. Housing is expensive in the DC area. Hopefully they’ll leave and turn Virginia red. Other offices can be moved into the heartland. Plenty of boarded up downtowns.
Do more with less!
Everybody else has to do it, it is time for Government to do the same!
Are you near any of the conflict?
The Federal government was bloated and had their fingers in things they do not even have any business being in.
Organizations like the EPA were in reality used as a form of tax collector and subsidy provider for pet projects (dumb ideas Democrat donors, some oligarch or corporation get rich from) ...
Isn’t it time for some new refrigerant requirement by the EPA? I’m sure DuPont didn’t mind.
“The people” had no idea what was going on.
They were getting taxed without knowing there were new taxes (taxing CO2 - what human activity does not produce CO2? In fact, what do you produce while reading and breathing what I wrote?).
Some rich folks were lining their pockets with federal money, and the general public was entirely ignorant or so pumped full of bullshit by a MSM championing these nonsense ideas that they thought it was cool, wind turbines. I’m sure GE didn’t mind.
Environmentalism got hijacked in the 70s. Political and activist grandstanding (the politician standing before a solar farm, some book full of lies like Silent Spring) and MOST of these green enviro causes today are junk where you have a questionable positive impact on the environment (EVs). It’s just about making money.
It’s long overdue to roll this form of “corruption” back.
The only time I worked for the government was my time in the military. I seriously considered making a career of it, until Carter was elected, then it was “I’m out of here”!
I worked the next 22 years in aerospace. The
local character of Western Washington state was
becoming so “Democrat” eg anti Freedom, I decided to
leave.
I ended up in a Socialist state, Hawaii, but they
are incompetent so it is easier to live free
and the weather is much better. I ended up working
at Keck Observatory, an interesting mix of JPL and
University California employment. I was able to retire
at at 55, so I did it.
Retirement income is 401K/B, Boeing, and
social security.
Been fight with this for 40 some years, but
recent changes in the laws, at age 70 I started to
get modest VA disability money for an
significant injury I had in the military.
Thank God my working life was mostly spent
as an Engineer, we don’t have to do a lot of
physical work(there was some).
Point of my story, The fact that I could be fired
at anytime, motivated the hell out of me.
and I was successful enough to retire debt
free in rural Hawaii at age 55.
Anybody can do it.
You don’t need a union.
You don’t need to work for the government.
You need to work for yourself.
We get incoming missiles in Haifa and environs, not much lately, but a few tonught, several kilometers off.
“It’s long overdue to roll this form of “corruption” back.”
*************
The bigger government gets the more opportunities there are for corruption, fraud and abuses. Cutting it down to size will, to a large degree, eliminate some of the waste and misuse of government resources.
The bigger government gets the smaller the citizens become. The reverse is also true.
This is good and we definitely need to downsize government at all levels. But Fed employee salaries are literally a drop in the budget.
If we do not attack social security, medicare and the structural deficit we will be bankrupt at some point.
I would like to see a focus on the budget after we finish off the mullahs.
Downsizing cannot be bad.
How about we ask Congress to pass a bill to actually abolish something though.
Otherwise the cycle just keeps going and going.
More than half of the federal workers should go. All of the ones in the DC/Fairfax area should be relocated ... Well, at least 95%.
This is exactly what I voted for.
Modest VA disability for something that happened 40 years after the fact?
I know a guy who gets a VA disability check for sleep apnea. Another guy who hurt his knee playing basketball while in the service.
The people only support the growth of government because it promises them more free stuff and greater security from real (Cartel), inflated (Ukraine, Covid), or imaginary (Global Warming, now Climate change) threats.
People do understand what you’re saying.
But when promised “free stuff” (what someone else is paying for), or you manage to get people afraid (fear is a powerful motivator) they are willing to go along with it.
With enough fear, you could get people to burn their neighbor at the stake, even today.
If the situation is right, greed will have people kick the neighbor family out of their home and take away their possessions, even today.
Human nature is neither nice nor fair, but it is rational and predictable. When politicians and the bureaucracy exploit this nature for their own benefit, government grows.
There are several hundred federal workers who occupy the Capital that we could do without.
Else ship them out of Virginia. Biden’s “good jobs” are a big part of how the Slave Party flipped the State. It’s a lot of electoral votes.
Productivity improvement is an integral part of Western Civ.
They are not “workers”, they are democrat subversives, leaches, dead wood. /spit
…But if they all worked from home, wouldn’t they be, like, super efficient? 👶
