Republican Congressman Darrell Issa Will Retire End of Term
Breitbart ^ | 6 Mar 2026 | Paul Bois

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) announced on Friday that he will be retiring at the end of his term, potentially leaving his seat vulnerable to a Democrat in the midterms.

Issa issued the announcement to retire soon after the deadline to register as a candidate in a district that became vulnerable to Democrat control after being redrawn last year.

“This decision has been on my mind for a while, and I didn’t make it lightly,” Issa said. “First, we built the right campaign infrastructure, support has been overwhelming — including from President Trump — and our polling was unmistakable: We would win this race. But after a quarter-century in Congress — and before that, a quarter-century in business — it’s the right time for a new chapter and new challenges.”

Issa endorsed San Diego Supervisor Jim Desmond to succeed him. …

Am I imagining it or are a lot of politicians jumping ship?

Between Issa, LaMalfa, and McClintock, California has had a few of the good ones.

Issa used to be pretty solid but I don’t know what’s happened to him lately, he turned into a squish.

McClintock too, along with Issa has turned into quite a squish compared to what he used to say he stood for. Something weird happened to both of them.

Jeff Childers thinks it is a planned rotation.

*** Steve Daines said he’d been “struggling with the decision for months.” But only four weeks ago, he filed for re-election. The stories covering it always mention Daines is the sixth Republican Senator to drop out of their re-election bid. That fact seems alarming. Why are so many Republican Senators leaving? Every story dutifully noted he’s the sixth Republican Senator to drop out, darkly suggesting they’re all sick of Trump.

So I dug into the six senators. Buckle up. What looks like a retirement wave is in fact a personnel rotation. Every departing senator is being replaced by a Trump-endorsed loyalist. In three cases —Michael Whatley, Harriet Hageman, Kurt Alme— the replacement is someone Trump personally installed in a prior role— his RNC chairman, the woman he recruited to take out Liz Cheney, and his own US Attorney under Trump 1.0 and 2.0.***

The “so called” Pubbies that are leaving are bad seeds. Let them go.

2026 is going to be a bloodbath based on the current evidence. The GOP has continually fought against conservatives, and even Trump is potentially if the leaks are true going to endorse establishment hack Cornyn instead of MAGA fighter Ken Paxton.

After Trump already endorsed Lindsey Graham! SMH

Everything is pointing forward toward a super depressed, super deflated and unmotivated conservative voting populace. The republicans don’t want us motivated to vote and sadly they’re getting their wish.

Meanwhile progressives are as fired up as can be.

Note. I want to be wrong. November will tell.

Something weird happened to both of them.

Maybe having to do with conservatives running away from California in droves.

With your political base leaving town, what else can one do to do as much as possible?

"Something weird happened to both of them."

Yep! Keep an eye on their bank balances, etc, over the next few years...

My feelings precisely. Early on, Issa was one of the guys Rush liked. But he slowly dwindled down to a pathetic squish. IMHO.

With the redistricting in CA he was going to lose the seat. Might as well get the pensions and get the gig with Fox News without having the empty the re-election campaign coffers.

He was the RINO who when the GOP retook congress during the Obama Era he announced they were going to investigate this and that.....and absolutely nothing came of any of it. That and the flat out refusal of the party to fight is reason 2,457 as to why I finally left the useless GOP 5 years ago.

The RATs have so corrupted the voting process in California I am automatically suspicious of any Republican who still holds office there. What kind of deal did he make with that Communist regime where they allowed him to win?

Given how they’ve pissed away the advantage of having control of Congress and a Trump presidency, every damn Republican should resign and be replaced.
