A purported US government contractor accused of stealing more than $46 million in crypto from the US Marshals Service was busted on the island of Saint Martin in a coordinated operation between the FBI and the French Gendarmerie, FBI Director Kash Patel announced.
John Daghita’s since-deleted LinkedIn page identifies him as working for Virginia-based Command Services & Support (CMDSS), a technology firm led by his father, Dean Daghita, which held contracts with the Marshals Service for managing seized digital assets.
The younger Daghita was reportedly able to access private crypto addresses — and millions of dollars in funds — through his father’s position at the company, though the technical details behind how he obtained access remains unclear.
“Thanks to the International Cooperation Team Serious Crime Unit of the French Gendarmerie National in Saint Martin, and the Groupe d’intervention de la Gendarmerie nationale of Guadeloupe for the outstanding coordination,” Patel wrote on X announcing the arrest.
“FBI will continue working 24/7 with our international partners to track down, apprehend, and bring to justice those who attempt to defraud American taxpayers—no matter where they try to hide.”
According to Bitcoin Magazine, the case comes amid increased scrutiny of the crypto holdings of the US Marshals Service — which is estimated to be in the vicinity of 200,000 bitcoin, worth some $13.5 billion.

Great, but makes me wonder, what is US Marshals Service doing with a stash of Crypto anyway?
Just why in the hell does the Secret Service have $12 billion in bitcoin? Is that all seized assets?

Not much of a disguise. He’s probably not able to grow an actual beard. Meanwhile, in a matter of months, John D. has disgraced and ruined the very successful business his father, Dean Daghita spent decades building up. To get government contracts like those would be the career dream of any high level financier. Now, the Daghita name = Mud.
“Time of your life, eh Kid”...
Not sure if this crime began while SloJo Biden was still there.
If so, that “10% for the Big Guy” doesn’t go as far as it used to go.

Good points.
Technical details behind how he obtained access remains unclear huh.
Technical details behind how he obtained access remains unclear, huh.
Agree It’s the only way he could get it.
It was an easy test.
Piss off the Marshals Service and become their most wanted person. Who wouldn't want that job?
How old was boy genius when he started his criminal enterprise?
Based on reports regarding his arrest on March 5, 2026, for stealing approximately $46 million in cryptocurrency from the U.S. Marshals Service, 25 y/o John “Lick” Daghita’s age was not officially released in initial reports.
Reports indicate that Daghita was arrested in Saint Martin following a manhunt. He is the son of Dean Daghita, the president of CMDSS, a government contracting firm. The investigation into his actions was highlighted by on-chain sleuth ZachXBT in January 2026.
If the Marshall Service has a Bitcoin fund, I wonder if ICE has something similar? to whom are these special funds accounted to? We the taxpayers, or some hidden supervisor?
I just finished listening to a PS TV program on economics. A Bitcoin expert was being interviewed. He also spoke a lot about something called Etherium (sp?). He said they had different functions. He said that Bitcoin was oriented to gold values. Etherium was useful for former paper bank transfers and makes them nearly instantaneous. He indicated that they were impossible to hack if I understood his explanation. He explained that ten years ago when only a few were using Bitcoin it was possible, but someone has to control 51% to be able to access the information, and now even a nation state is not big enough. Now too much is held by too many to create that 51%. This is all new to me but I am now interested as my son has been doing Bitcoin for ten years and I want to be able to talk with him and not sound like an old lady, which I am. I hope I am conveying what I just heard with some accuracy as I was not taking notes, just trying to remember some high points.
It looks like he would have had to started ten years ago to actually have been a “boy genius” at 15 years old.
