Republicans are surging after President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address and might be in position to defy history in the midterm elections, polling shows.

The Harvard Harris poll found Republicans are in a much better position heading into midterm elections than previously assessed.

The poll asked respondents if the congressional election were held today would they be more likely to vote for a Democrat or a Republican for Congress, finding likely midterm voters split down the middle. The results mark an eight-point swing towards Republicans in the Harvard Harris poll since January when 54 percent of respondents replied they would be more likely to vote for Democrats with only 46 percent opting for Republicans. …

I give the edge to the GOP now. They have a massive war chest. Looking forward to ‘Willie Horton’ like ads of illegals killing Americans in all walks of life … from drunk drivers, truck drivers, stabbings etc

However, in the Senate we are likely to lose Maine and North Carolina. Hoping for a flip in Georgia

“However, in the Senate we are likely to lose Maine and North Carolina. Hoping for a flip in Georgia”

We have to do a lot of politicking and praying to keep that from happening. I reminded my cousins in NC to vote today, and they will.

Susan Collins will be hard to beat. Her opponent in last election was enormously strong and still lost. Her opponent this time around will be similarly strong, but Collins gets so much media as the designated Republican opposed to some particular policy that she’s in the news often in Maine supporting things that blue Maine voters approve of.

There is no one else who could have held that seat for as long as she has. She is not Romney. She is not representing a staunch Red State and standing up pushing anti-trump policies as such. She is representing a staunch Blue State and only occasionally having an anti Trump position.

Do not ever forget that we have a strong supreme Court majority because of her and a speech he gave one day that provided cover to some squishy GOP senators to vote to approve Kavanaugh. He was likely going to lose that nomination vote and she saved him.

Odds look pretty good we will lose the North Carolina seat, but that Maine seat is not as vulnerable.

Okay I am not one to put too much faith in polls…. But it would be natural for a party that has no actual platform to begin to poll badly the closer to elections we get- as their opponent carefully continues to keep his promises to make the nation safer , more prosperous and less fraudulent.

I’m sure they’ll F’ it up. The GOP sucks at messaging especially when they’re on the right side of all 80/20 issues. You’d think they could get a PR TEAM together.

A more detailed explanation is that as election day approaches, the Republican campaign effort aims to overcome the Democratic campaign effort and their advantage due to media bias. To do that, the GOP must have the candidates, funds, organization, issues, campaign skills, and political environment to convert general public sentiment into votes for GOP candidates.

Trump understands this, but an astonishingly large proportion of GOP candidates, officeholders, and party officials do not. They prefer to believe that elections are best won by being nice and working hard, as if public office is a prize that is given to good children.

I am not so sure about losing Maine. The primary is in June so it will depend in part on who the Rats nominate.

What if we are also witnessing the fundamental breaking of the left? In incremental steps.

The poll means nothing. It would take 468 separate polls to come to a conclusion. Plus, that won’t be accurate until after the primaries

Thom Tillis was already lost. He was effectively a "D" with a coiffe and sharkskin suit, smelling of old beef, cheap scotch and stale urine.

Perfectly describes the mindset of a cadre of pusillanimous Republicans all of whom are utterly contemptable people.

**What if we are also witnessing the fundamental breaking of the left? In incremental steps.**

Could happen but I’m skeptical. Guess we’ll just have to wait.
