Reza Pahlavi, the exiled former crown prince of Iran who has positioned himself as a potential successor to the country’s current leadership, has drawn renewed attention after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in joint United States and Israeli strikes.
The U.S. and Israel began major combat operations in Iran on Saturday aimed at destroying the country’s military capabilities and encouraging regime change after diplomatic talks over Tehran’s nuclear program failed. Trump urged Iranians to remain in their homes during the bombing and later take control of their government.

Did you run that first sentence by your editor?
He lived in Lubbock briefly.
Pipe dream.
I myself do not believe Pahlavi wants to be the next ruler of Iran. This is just media blather.
He has a more than comfortable life in LA, he hasn’t a care in the world. And he hasn’t been to Iran in 45+ years. Nobody with a brain would want to step into the s**thold Iran will be for next xx years.
I understand and appreciate that some/many in Iran would want him back, but this is just pining for the fjords. He’d probably be assassinated in about 45 minutes after re-entering Iran.
A nothing burger of click bait.
Iran is ungovernable. Always has been.
From what he has said himself in every interview, he would like to be involved in reorganizing the State; but he believes that the country’s leaders should be democratically elected as soon as it can be set up to do so.
Reza Pahlavi has organized a transition team to ensure that the infrastructure keeps functioning until new elections can be scheduled to determine what type of government the Iranian people want to adopt.
He is the crown prince of Iran and has been the government in exile for 47 years. He is the popular choice of the Iranian people to lead the transition. Pahlavi has stated many times that he does not want to the king. He just wants to make sure there is a smooth transition to democracy.
I can see him having some sort ceremonial head of state role, but as you say that he certainly does not want to go back to the way things were under his father.
Reza Pahlavi would no doubt be a better ruler than the Mullahs, but that is what is called “damning him with faint praise”. IOW, that is not a very high mark to surpass.
I don’t believe there is any popular support in Iran to bring Reza Pahlavi back and reinstall him. I don’t think that is going to happen.
Let’s see. Two-thirds of the people were not born before his father was deposed-no memory of him. Take the remaining one-third of which a sizable segment supported the late Shah. That could mean 80% or so would have a not too big problem with him. Just look at the son of Ferdinand Marcos running his country. At least this guy is familiar.
Problem is the late Shah just mighta had to rule with an iron hand. We don’t really know how crazy they are.
Lucky him. Thats an old inside joke thing. Lubbock TX avoided having serious tornados for years and there were shirts signs and stickers saying “Lucky Me, I live in Lubbock.”
Then they had a bad one.
He is more important right now as a symbol than he will be as a flesh and blood leader. His actual leadership ability is yet to be proven.
But he represents for Iranians a return to normality. While at the time Iran’s hipsters viewed his father as a dictator, they now see that it was a free country under the Shah. His strong man rule was what kept the communists and ayatollahs at bay.
Carter’s role in betraying him and handing power to Khomeini was and is unforgivable.
Suppose they choose an Islamic Republic?
Pahlavi has said he would serve as Interim Leader as the Iranian people decide what type of government they want. He favors a secular democracy.
They already have a Constitutional Monarchy which was shelved by the Ayatollahs. He might be thinking to renew that old Constitution with modifications. Now England has a Constitutional Monarchy, which is what the original government was designed after. Pahlavi has a better shot than anyone so far, but he will have to prove his intentions at some point.
Sure the millions protesting in the streets are going to vote for the same people killing them
Are you really this stupid? Do you bother to learn a single thing about a topic before posting your kee jerk infantile ignorant troll vomit?
When Franko dies Spain when in to a similar wave of chaos. The living member of the old Spanish Royal family, Juan Carlos stepped in as an interim leader who could referee between the various factions as they transitions from Dictatory ship to Democracy
It called “La Trancision”. It appears the Iranian resistance groups have been building of the Spanish model.

Then nothing would truly change.
