Stena Bulk has confirmed that a commercial vessel hit in an Iranian missile attack in Bahrain early on Monday was one of its own ships, known to be in the employ of the US Navy.
TradeWinds reported that the vessel hit in the strike that left one Asian maritime worker dead and two seriously injured, could be the US-flagged, 49,800-dwt Stena Imperative (built 2016).

Misleading headline.
This is a commercial vessel.

Yes. The hint in the story is that an Asian maritime worker was killed. Not too many of those on a US military ship.

known to be in the employ of the US Navy. Contractors face most of the dangers that uniformed military face.

Iran is just firing missiles and hoping to hit something before they run out of missiles

“Contractors face most of the dangers that uniformed military face.”
I agree. Sometimes more, even, like Blackwater contractors in Iraq.
But it’s still not a US Navy vessel.

No ... not even a USNS ... Headline writers frequently get things even more wrong than article writers.

And every time they fire one it triggers and entire system that can understand the “from where, when, what”, along with what communication systems were involved - with all of it being targeted at lightening speed.
Every time they fire, their weakness becomes worse, not just one missile less.

I sure wouldn’t want to be one of those Iranian, mobile missile launch vehicle drivers.

Exactly… Not even a USNS vessel. It sounds like it’s just a contracted vessel by the military to carry things to a certain destination.
These things happen.

I am sure it was contracted a very specific way, but no US sailors, and not USN or UNSN status.
