Westwood Iranian-Americans celebrate regime change in Iran

Crowds of Iranian-Americans took to the streets of Westwood on Saturday to celebrate the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran and the reported formation of a provisional government by opposition groups, marking a moment many said they never expected to witness in their lifetimes.

Celebrations spilled into the streets near Persian Square with people waving Iranian flags, honking car horns and chanting in joy. Some danced in the streets, expressing hope for a freer Iran.

Shab Snyder, an Iranian-American and former refugee whose family still lives in Iran, described the moment as almost unreal.

“I never thought I’d see this in my lifetime, or my kids’ lifetime,” she said. “I’m so happy that we’re finally going to get our freedom. I was just praying every day to God that one day I would see this, and I can go visit the places I never got to visit because I left Iran when I was seven years old. We are beyond hopeful and happy that things will change.”

The celebrations reflect the deep personal connection many in the Westwood area have to events unfolding in Iran. Demonstrators expressed support for regime change and the ability of the Iranian people to determine their own future – with chants of “Let the Iranian people choose their destiny” echoing through the square.

It’s a neiborhhod in LA where all the Persians live. Even today most of the shops will host picture’s of the Shah set up like some kind of saint.

the reported formation of a provisional government by opposition groups,

I hope this is true since this is the purpose of all of this.
