A murder suspect was hospitalized and a man was arrested after a fight at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse on Thursday, officials said.
The fight happened ahead of a court hearing for Marion McKnight, who is accused of killing 16-year-old Jamariyae Dixon in May 2025, according to the nonprofit Mothers Advocating for Real Change and Unwavering Support (M.A.R.C.U.S.).
A spokesperson for the nonprofit said McKnight had repeatedly taunted Dixon's family after being released on bond for the charge. He was appearing in court for a bond revocation hearing after violating his pre-trial release conditions. They said Thursday's incident took place between McKnight and Dixon's father.
"The emotional eruption that occurred in the courthouse hallway was not the act of a violent man, but the breaking point of a grieving father who has endured unimaginable loss, public humiliation, and a justice process that has repeatedly failed to protect his family," M.A.R.C.U.S. said.
While the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office did not state the names of those involved, it confirmed a defendant was taken to the hospital after an "incident" at the courthouse Thursday morning. The person who initiated the fight was taken into custody. Investigators haven't confirmed if the arrested person was Dixon's father.
"Families and community advocates believe McKnight’s release was the result of an administrative error, one that the District Attorney’s Office is now urgently attempting to correct," a release from M.A.R.C.U.S. said. "Many also fear that officials are working to quietly manage or minimize the mistake rather than openly acknowledge the harm it has caused."
McKnight was charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder after a shooting on Stroud Park Court on May 23, 2025. Dixon died days after the shooting. Two other people were also hurt in the shooting.

Some would say the judge did the family a favor when he released the murderer on bond.
Others would say it is a favor to justice to allow a trial before conviction.
It is a national disgrace that we have to strike back at those who pose greevis harm on us. There is no justice in America, not for us anyway. If I were on his jury I would vote not guilty. This man needs the justice he won’t get in court.
If I were on the fathers jury, he would walk. Sometimes jury nullification is the correct choice.
Should’ve stood back and let the father beat him to a bloody pulp.
should have let the dad continue, and save other future victims, or at least save $ from incarcerating the POS
A trial is to determine the facts.
Justice was not offended in the slightest by this event.
Watching the video makes me wonder if the courthouse recently polished the floors. Lots of slipping going on.

As they say in da hood, pops don’t play. He went O.G. on his ass. That’s fur reel
Reminds me of that case many years ago of the father whose son had been kidnapped and raped. They caught the guy and was bringing him through an airport lobby while the father waited at a bank of payphones. As he walked by the phones...with a despicable smirk on his face...the father approached and delivered a few grams of lead to his right ear.
This is happening in Charlotte. The murderer will walk. The dad will get serious time for assault. That’s Charlotte today.
Courts in Charlotte will not punish criminals so it falls on those impacted to carry out street justice. No sympathy here for the killer.
Exactly!
