San Francisco criminal and civil court clerks — the people who manage court records, process court filings and prepare court orders — are going on strike Thursday after complaining for months of overwhelming workloads.
A “last-ditch effort to find a resolution” between the clerk’s union and court management failed on Wednesday afternoon, said criminal courtroom clerk Rob Borders.
The court will remain open for mandated services, Court Executive Officer Brandon Riley said in a statement, but disruptions are predicted. Management employees will “triage” emergency matters and prioritize cases with statutory deadlines, like criminal arraignments.

Clerks first threatened to strike four months ago. Their demands have not changed: They want more staff and better training to handle the influx of criminal cases that have doubled their workload. The number of new misdemeanor and felony cases filed in San Francisco Superior Court has outpaced the number of cases resolved nearly every month for the last two years.
The clerk’s union last week reiterated the consequences if their demands are not met, writing in a statement that “gross mismanagement” has led to delays and errors that have prevented defendants’ timely release.

On the other hand ... court clerks? Really???
Breathtaking.
Automation looms.
AI coming in hot!
Does this mean criminals won’t be able to get released?
San Francisco must be mortified.
Most criminals keep committing crimes. Longer sentences mean less work. A few blanket parties for liberal judges would help.
These cities are non-viable but are still expected to keep certain functions.
“San Francisco criminal and civil court clerks to strike tomorrow”
Considering how the city has gone so soft on crime over the years, its not like they’re needed or will be missed.
If SEIU is involved this is a scam. They are like the mafia. Totally criminal.
NO government employee unions. At all.
If they don’t like it they can get a job in the private sector. With the UAW or the Teamsters.
The Soros effect.
Pre walkout - criminals released. Post walkout - criminals released. Employees, stay home and find another scam.
Cool.
Will anybody notice?
That is exactly what is going to happen (automation and AI).
A few years ago ALL of the tollbooths over the bridges into San Francisco were automated - a local told me it happened b/c the toll booth operators were going to go on strike.
Now, you drive through the tollbooth, your license plate is photographed and you pay the toll online or by check. Traffic moves much better now over the bridges b/c you no longer have to stop.
Just got my fee yesterday in the mail...
I am proud to have steered some of our city employees out of the SEIU. Secretly. While in the HR Department. They were under the impression that they had no choice but to join.
The dynamics of the HR Directors was complicated. They were toadies for the administration (not the employees), and toadies for TPTB in the unions. I never could make it make sense. There aren’t many people I respect less than female HR higher-ups. (The men I worked for basically were sane. The women ALL had degrees in some sort of Psychology fields.)
If Conservatives are still living there, that's on you.
Fekkin’ communists.
Well since SF is west of the Pecos, bring in a Roy bean type judge. No backlogs no delays. Instant justice.
The court just releases the criminals anyway. Now we won’t have to pay to have them tried, they’ll just be let go.
Public service now means that the public exits to service its so-called public servants.
