Kansas GOP Overrides Dem Governor's Veto on Bathroom Bill

Kansas Republicans voted to override Democrat Gov. Laura Kelly's veto of a bill that requires transgender people to use restrooms and changing facilities based on biological sex rather than gender identity.

The Kansas Senate voted to override the veto Tuesday, 31-9, and the Kansas House followed Wednesday with an 87-37 vote, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported.

The override means Senate Bill 244 is the second new law of the 2026 legislative session and the first to take effect, according to the report.

Senate President Ty Masterson, a Republican, praised the outcome, saying the override "restored sanity."

He said Kelly's veto "would have forced our mothers, sisters, wives, and daughters to share their bathrooms with biological men in government buildings."

"Kansas Democrats are for They/Them," Masterson said in a statement. "I will continue to fight for you, and protect women and girls across our state."

...

Under the bill, government buildings — including public schools and universities — would be required to separate bathrooms and locker rooms by biological sex. The measure also addresses other designated spaces tied to privacy and changing.

Violations could trigger penalties.

According to the report, individuals who violate the law could be fined or sued for $1,000 and could be criminally charged for repeatedly using facilities that do not match their biological sex.

The bill includes exceptions, including allowing parents or caregivers to take children under 9 years old into opposite-sex bathrooms and allowing coaches into opposite-sex locker rooms as long as everyone is clothed.

Another provision would bar Kansas residents from changing the sex marker on state-issued driver's licenses and birth certificates.

...

In 2025, lawmakers overrode a Kelly veto to pass a law banning sex change drugs for minors.

Rep. Abi Boatman, who is transgender, criticized the measure, saying the law "obviously discriminates against transgender people in ways that make our lives exponentially more difficult and dangerous

I think I see the problem...

I don't know. Kansas is pretty f'ed up (or at least the females are). The first sign was when they rejected Kris Kobach so many times. Then electing this commie.

would be required to separate bathrooms and locker rooms by biological sex. “

The locker room and showers part always get buried by media. They don’t want any focus on young girls having to strip in front of these creeps pretending to be female.

There’s something going on when we focus on the weird stuff while the everyday governing is in the background. While the trannies are the real crazies the distraction they cause make the Jasmin Crocketts appear more semi-normal as elected officials. Awful democrat governor in a red state is not as bad as the statements coming out of the one in Mass. or Minnesota. Don’t forget Spanberger. Our problem is the lack of fight. We will win under Trump’s coat tails while our winners are too scared to stand behind him.

What am I saying? We need to put on a full court press while using our heads. Tactics are not my forte but California could have 2 GOP governor candidates finishing in the top 2, meaning we win. The proposed mid-term convention needs to become reality. Let the hard left win it for us by nominating a Ted Cruz should a SCOTUS seat come up-no need to research him. A 30 hour confirmation hearing should be expanded to 60. The whole summer would be a riot more ways than one. Should the rinos vote him down start the process over and go with 8 SCOTUS judges in the meantime. Either way we come out ahead. It would be awesome.

So she can practice her “exhibitionist” lifestyle in bathrooms and locker rooms fulltime all over Kansas.

The Kansas Senate voted to override the veto Tuesday, 31-9, and the Kansas House followed Wednesday with an 87-37 vote

Looks like common sense is not evenly distributed among mankind, as Descartes thought, but this is a strong majority.
