Oakland Mayor’s Car Stolen After Office Broken Into
KRON4 ^ | Feb 18, 2026 | Aaron Tolentino

Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee’s vehicle was stolen Monday after someone broke into her office, according to the Oakland Police Officers Association (OPOA). The police union confirmed that someone tampered with the door of Lee’s office and stole the keys to her city-issued vehicle.

The suspect drove away in Lee’s vehicle, the OPOA said. A day later, on Tuesday, the stolen vehicle was recovered in Vallejo.

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) confirmed that a city-owned vehicle was stolen from Oakland City Hall on Monday and recovered “hours later.”

Neither OPD nor the OPOA specified the location of where in Vallejo it was recovered. The time of the theft was not mentioned by either agency.

As of Wednesday morning, the suspect in connection with Lee’s stolen vehicle remains at large.

KRON4 reached out to the mayor’s office for more information. We did not hear back in time for publication.

I’m actually LOL.

When I moved to San Francisco a few decades ago, my new neighbors told me to never go to Oakland. So I didn’t. Then I met a friend at work and we enjoyed each other’s company. She said there were nice, safe areas in Oakland and she lived there. Invited me over. Very nice house in a nice area.

Like me, she was a cat lady, and one of her male cats walked down the street turned the corner, walked into a bar and stayed there all day.

So that’s Oakland. Drunk cats and only God knows who else. My cat and I left CA many years ago.

Some decades ago, I occasionally needed to work in an office in Oakland.

I can't think of a time when I felt safe there (or anywhere in the East Bay). I became an expert at leaving Oakland meetings early and also avoiding them altogether.

The best view of Oakland (or the Bay Area or even the once-great state of Cali is in your rear view mirror.)

Ex Congresswoman - I didn’t know she was elected as Mayor of Oakland.

I remember when Jerry Brown went from Governor of CA to mayor of Oakland - someone asked him about all the security he had with him and he said, “This is a dangerous city.”

“”There’s no there there.””

Now you did it - who said that? I can look it up, I guess.

I visited an area of lovely Victorian houses west of downtown Oakland about 15 years ago.

The excerpt makes it sounds like it’s her personal vehicle, when it is actually a city government vehicle. Perhaps the city was behind in making payments and the Repo Man got it.
