(Bloomberg) — US supplies of gasoline are being shipped out of the country to travel thousands of miles via the Bahamas before finally ending up in California, a state battling shrinking fuelmaking capacity and high pump prices.
Shipments on the circuitous route are increasing. California imported more gasoline in November than ever before, with more than 40% coming from the Bahamas.

Importing it makes no sense.

So they have a refinery in the Bahamas?
To: kvanbrunt2
Reading the article, the Jones Act forbids the use of non-American ships to transport goods from one American port to another. Hence, the transportation of east-cost refined gas to the Bahamas, then from the Bahamas to California. So east cost refineries are mixing the special blend for California’s requirements.

CA doesn’t have a choice, when they mandate specific blends be sold in the state.
If a refinery in another country wants to rape CA because only they will make the blend, since the others have left the state, then that’s how it’s going to be until the CA ARB is banned by federal law and any existing edicts it has created be destroyed and prohibited by said law.

Indeed and transporting it like this adds unnecessary fuel usage. Once again enviro laws end up hurting the environment. When the dims name a piece of legislation the end result is the opposite.

Apparently it is gasoline when it is shipped to the Bahamas.

On average, the closures could raise the cost of gasoline for consumers by between 5 and 15 cents a gallon, Seems low, way low.

Isn’t the stated goal of California to eliminate all fossil fuels?
This is what that would look like. Less and less at increasingly higher prices until there is no fuel.

Maybe not. Phillips and Valero shut down their California blend refineries in California due to costs and over regulation.
This does not give me the sads

Waiting for the headline is:
"Food-Starved California Is Turning to Food From (enter foreign country here)"
Ironic the original home of Chevron has to import gas.
