INDIANAPOLIS — The man who raped, stabbed and murdered a 19-year-old Indianapolis woman over 30 years ago will now spend nearly 50 years behind bars.
Dana Shepherd, 53, was sentenced on Friday to 45 years in prison.
Van Huss was raped and stabbed 61 times by a man who broke into her studio apartment. After first being discovered by her father, police said they found her nude body lying in a large pool of blood. “We hope after all this time people understand how violent my sister’s murder was,” Jimmy Van Huss said in 2024. “She was raped and stabbed over 60 times. My dad had to see that, blood everywhere, his daughter naked, lying there. He had to see that. That changed him forever.”

Indiana has the death penalty. But like most other states, I suppose they’re too weak to use it.
I wonder how many other crimes he committed since then that he hasn’t been charged for.
“likely to get out in 20 years”. This is not accountability. If you read the details, you know this monster must be destroyed.
The thing that still blows my mind is they use DNA and crack all these cold cases decades later. And you find somebody did something as monstrous as this.....and then seemed to lead a fairly normal life after that as though nothing happened.
Some continue doing things like this but they usually get caught much faster. A decent percentage just go on and live a regular life afterwards....which is difficult for me to comprehend how such a monster could just turn it off....and you would have to be a monster to commit such a crime.

Execution by 61 stabs after being violently raped.
This would not be cruel or unusual punishment.
When he did this exact thing to this young girl, he didn’t think it was cruel, or unusual for her. It was not a problem for him.

They should put a positive wire on his unit and a negative one in his bunghole and turn up the amperage. For a couple of hours.
Ooh yeah..so shocking...who could have predicted that this group would be savage animals..well,many peo0le predicted it..
this is not a win win situation....feral got to live a normal life while this poor girl suffered a horrible death and her family in despair.
