Evanston, Illinois. will issue $25,000 to 44 residents in reparations payments, the City’s Reparations Committee has announced.
Established in 2019 and approved by the City Council in 2021, the program issues $25,000 direct cash payments to Black residents and descendants of Black residents who lived in Evanston between 1919 and 1969.
Evanston was the first city in the nation to pass a reparations plan, pledging $10 million over a decade to Black residents.
The payments are intended to cover housing expenses, Evanston official Cynthia Vargas told the Chicago Tribune.
Tasheik Kerr, assistant to the city manager, said during a meeting last week the residents will be contacted to inform them their payments are on the way over the next few weeks.
According to a city memo, the fund had received $276,588 from Evanston’s real estate transfer tax. The committee discussed taxing Delta-8 THC products to sustain funding in the future.

Yes, I remember vividly the Illinois slavers - the ones who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War.
What a bunch of Copperhead morons! 😂😂😂
Blacks stealing from whites to give to blacks
“To date, Evanston has awarded over $6,350,000 to 254 individuals based on their race. The city must be stopped before it spends even more money on this clearly discriminatory and unconstitutional reparations program,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said at the time.
I am now black and moving there.
As is in taxes. paid as well.
How do they determine if someone is black or not? Couldn’t any of us identify as black? If one is from India are you black or not?
Taxation without representation. But hey, it’s for a good cause.
In the old days some folks referred to taxes as “slavery for whites”.
I still don’t understand why we are supposed to do reparations for slavery.
As a society, apparently we get no credit for having ended slavery. And no credit for the civil rights laws of the fifties and sixties, which broke the back of legal segregation in this country. We get no credit for having implemented programs such as affirmative action, to try to remedy past discrimination. Apparently, none of that matters for those who are pushing reparations for slavery.
Well, maybe the dam is breaking on this. As we see certain liberal places, implementing reparations plans, others will follow.
“”Black residents and descendants of Black residents who lived in Evanston between 1919 and 1969. “”
And the proof is??????? Don’t see that mentioned. Oh! None is needed? Great! Anyone can IDENTIFY as black, I guess...
They will soon find that $25K is not nearly enough to soothe those hurt feelings. It will soon be evident that it needs to be $25K a month. Forever.
Is anyone suing that city over this?
Yes I fear that will happen. Having established , that we should be paying these reparations, now there will be debates about how much is adequate. I’m sure some will come out and say twenty five thousand just isn’t adequate.
We are told racism is bad.
Then we are told whites are evil.
Got it.
Because it’s not really ‘reparations’ - this is just theft of public money.
“We get no credit for having implemented programs such as affirmative action, to try to remedy past discrimination”
With billions paid out
Hopefully, someone will file suit before the checks are actually sent.
The citizens of Evanston voted for this. They’re paying for it.
