Russia said Wednesday it was "no longer bound" by limits on the number of nuclear warheads it could deploy, as its last arms control treaty with the United States looked set to expire.
The New START agreement will end Thursday, formally releasing both Moscow and Washington from a raft of restrictions on their nuclear arsenals.
Campaigners have warned the treaty's demise could unleash a new arms race between the world's top nuclear powers, and encourage China to expand its arsenal.

Ho hum to Russia’s fake blustering. No one cares now that we’ve seen their “mighty ness” in Ukraine.
More warmongering from the Moscow Kremlin? Suprise, suprise, suprise.
Russia isn’t
What threat do you employee once you are already the largest nuclear stockpile holder in the world? What additional threat can they employ? What can they afford to do that is not related to their current debacle in Ukraine? The Ukraine conflict has already run longer than WWII. How much more can their industrial and labor base produce?
Time to max out the loads on the Minuteman and Trident missiles again.
I imagine Trump and Putin are on the phone as we speak. I believe they were going to negotiate the extension of the pact...but that was a while ago.
I would think that Russia has bigger issues to deal with than building up their stockpile of nukes.
Goody! Destroy the world now! The treaty allows it, and Vlad never liked it anyway. Not since people started fighting back when he invaded them. Ride that baby down like Slim Pickins. YEEEHAW!

;^)
How did Russia end up with all the nukes and none in the Ukraine?
This has been a topic raised often in recent months.
Make no mistake in this, the Russian advantage in this matter is huge — for one overwhelming reason. They are BRICS and China has no neodymium magnets restraints on BRICS nations.
Time to:
1) Fully load the Minuteman and Trident.
2) Develop a new ICBM with maneuvering warheads.
3) Develop a new SLBM with maneuvering warheads.
4) Develop new warheads.
5) Resume underground testing.
During a visit to South Korea in October, Trump vowed to begin testing US nuclear weapons “on an equal basis” with Russia and China, saying he had instructed the Defense Department to begin immediate preparations for such testing.
A week after Trump’s announcement, on November 5, Putin directed the Russian military to begin preparing for weapons tests.
Then, dear Russia- do you not consider that this no longer obligates the US as well, you stupid troglidytes (sic). What morons. Brute stupid thugs.... Ukraine has presented them with a greater failure even than Afghanistan did.
Yep- select fire means adding 4 more MIRV warheads for primary targeting. Can be done fairly quickly, and somehow letting them know quietly just how stooopid their club waving is. They are primitive minds... like the ones that produced Chernobyl, and still run other reactors on the same design!!! to this day.
Think that Billy Cokenose Clinton’s nuke negotiators bought them all off from Ukraine. Stupid Ukrainians almost as fn dumb as the Russians. Deceit throughout, and Democrats to help f up the US strategic positions that cost thousands of lives and billions untold in development.
Interesting factoid: the US has not produced weapons grade uranium since 1964. All weapons produced since then has drawn on the existing stockpile.
No one wanted Ukraine to have nuclear weapons. Not the US and certainly not Russia.
The US and Russia pressured Ukraine into giving them up and joining the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. In return, we both promised we would respect their borders and sovereignty, and never attack them except in self defense.
Russia and the USA have thousands. The only important thing is how many can get past each’s defense. Okay, “I have 2000 and you also.” If 300 of mine get past your ballistic defenses your nation is no more as would be my nation.”
