Officials announce significant update in massive California human trafficking sting

Officials announced a significant update in a massive human trafficking sting called “Operation Reclaim and Rebuild,” an initiative that mobilized over 80 law enforcement agencies at all levels from across California.

L.A. County Sheriff Robert Luna spoke Tuesday morning at a press conference announcing the results of what authorities described in a press release as “an extensive weeklong statewide crackdown on human trafficking.”

“Six of these rescues were girls under the age of 18. Let that sit for a moment…we have traffickers that are putting barely-teenage girls on the streets of Los Angeles to be victimized repeatedly,” Deputy Chief Hamilton said, elaborating that not all of the victims were California-based. “These children did not come from one place: they came from Chicago, Oklahoma, Missouri, tribal lands in the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and from communities right here in California.”

“Barely-teenaged girls under the age of 18”. My head is spinning doing the math on this one. If the girls involved were 13 or 14, barely teenaged, why not say so?

Don’t misunderstand, the traffickers should all be put away forever, but some official statements just don’t make sense.
