Oklahoma prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Anthony Gonzalez, 24, accusing him of a “heinous” and “cruel” killing of an 18-year-old 7-Eleven clerk and new mother who was working the overnight shift alone.
Authorities say Jaedynn Anthony, 18, who had a 1-year-old son, was attacked in October 2024 at a 7-Eleven in Oklahoma City. In a press release issued last week, the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office said Gonzalez robbed the store and then stabbed Anthony.
“After he had the money in hand, Gonzalez stabbed Jaedynn one time and left the store,” the DA’s office said.
Investigators said officers arrived around 2:45 a.m. and found Anthony dead. Prosecutors say Gonzalez fled with “less than $40” from the cash register.
Police previously said customers later entered the store and found Anthony in medical distress. Investigators reported that an unknown person had entered the store and stabbed her before running away on foot.
According to officials, surveillance video shows Gonzalez walking in, greeting Anthony, and briefly acting as if he intended to buy an item from behind the counter. A relative of the victim, Somer Goodgion, told local CBS affiliate KWTV that the greeting made the situation even more disturbing.
“She said hi to him, and he said hi to her when he came in the door,” Goodgion said. “The audacity the man had to say hi to her knowing what you’re about to do this young baby.”
Police say Gonzalez ordered Anthony to open the cash register and stabbed her once the till was open, then fled the store. He remained at large for several days before he was arrested by Oklahoma City Police and members of a U.S. Marshals task force.
After the arrest, Goodgion told KWTV that Gonzalez should face severe consequences and described the loss as devastating for the family.
A GoFundMe created for Anthony’s family describes her as a “bright light” and says she left behind her 1-year-old son, Brayden.
Goodgion also told KWTV that Anthony was not allowed to have a phone while working and that she had bought pepper spray for protection.
“What do you give these people to protect themselves?” Goodgion asked.
The district attorney’s office said it is pursuing the death penalty based on aggravating circumstances, describing the attack as “especially heinous” and “cruel.”
“Our office treats the decision to seek the death penalty with the utmost seriousness,” Oklahoma County District Attorney Vicki Zemp Behenna said. “It is never made lightly and never made in haste. This determination is based on a careful review of the facts, the law, and extensive discussion with experienced prosecutors in my office. Based on that process and the evidence in this case, we believe seeking the death penalty is appropriate.”
Gonzalez has had a preliminary hearing on charges of first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was ordered to stand trial and remains in custody on a $10 million bond. His next court date is scheduled for April 1.
Looks like an illegal.
Will be defended by a lib lawyer and let go by liberal judge because it’s in his culture.
April Fool’s Day. How appropriate.
Guessing by the name of the victim she was black and they’re not showing her photo because illegal criminals are now favored over black Americans.
A firearm and training on how to use it and when one should use it. As a retail pharmacist I worked in a couple of shady areas. I was armed against company policy. My logic was better fired than dead. My weapon was not for the ordinary robber. I would "have given him the drugs and money, told him to have a good day and please give all future business to Walgreeens down the street." I was armed for the crazy doper that might kill me. I lasted two years in retail and then went to hospital pharmacy, a wise move.
Eastern Kentucky which is Appalachia has some strange dudes come out of those hills.
“7-Eleven clerk and new mother who was working the overnight shift alone.”

I thought 7-11 required at least 2 people overnight. That poor victim must have been desperate for money to work the over night shift alone.
Horrible. It’s no fun working alone at night in a 7-Eleven store. In my youth I was in that situation. A stranger came in about 3am. with a long coat. Underneath was a shotgun. I knew what was happening, and gave him the contents of the register and he told me to lay on the floor and don’t move. I did that for less than a minute as I knew he was gone by the closing of the door. I ran out of the store and picked up a big rock. As he was driving away from the apartment complex, I threw it hard and it shattered his right rear window. He must’ve been startled because as he drove away he clipped a couple of parked cars. I got a description of him and the car. A day or so later a detective came into the store and said they had a suspect. I went to the station and had to pick a person out of a line-up. (that was interesting) I did and that was the guy. 3 or 4 days after that the detective came back and told me that the suspect had hung himself in jail. I was scared at the moment but really pissed after he was gone. Crazy but that was my reaction. I was about 28 years old at the time.
There will be no calls from Democrats to say her name.
Just gettin his reparations
Great, fascinating story. Loved the happy plot twist of the perp twist (play on words). Hope he suffered as he gasped for air. Probably not, though.
I’m glad he didn’t make a quick decision to kill you before he left the store. It’s all up to the drug addled, low IQ mind of the perps. Then we have to sit through years or decades of appeals and judges letting the perp out of prison and so on. A terrible, terrible system.
Thanks again for the great story.
The pyramid hierarchy of victimhood is a big ball of feces. Always rolling. Always changing. There is never a “top” It always mashes up,for, the next big victim group.
I was about 21 when I worked at a convenience store for a few months. I worked alone on the closing shift, it wasn’t a 24-hour place. The manager told me if anyone robbed the place, just give them the money, but if the robber(s) told me to go into the back, I should run, fight, yell, whatever I could. Because then I might survive, but if I went into the back I would be killed.
Fortunately nothing happened while I worked there, and I got a better job and moved on. A few years later, a clerk at a different branch of that chain chased a robber and was shot dead.
Happened to my wayward brother on a Halloween night. Guy came in with a mask and it was all on film. Police detective told him the perp confessed and my brother was in on it. A 7-11 robbery is small potatoes to them and they’d rather not bother until someone gets injured.
A woman should not work at night like that.
Send the murder to Minneapolis. They’re wild about criminals up there.
7Eleven is a pig outfit that is too cheap to have more than one clerk in the store at a time. I would advise anyone to not work or shop there.
Wood chip the SOB, spread the chunks on a mound of fire ants.
