The daughter of a top Iranian official has been dismissed from employment at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, following US sanctions on her father in the wake of the Iranian regime’s brutal crackdown on protesters, according to the university’s newspaper Saturday.
Fatemeh Ardeshir-Larijani is the daughter of Ali Larijani, senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and has served as assistant professor at Emory’s medical school, teaching hematology and medical oncology at the prestigious southern US university.
After learning of her employment at the school, Rep. Buddy Carter, who represents Georgia in Congress, called on Emory to dismiss her and the state’s medical board to revoke her medical license.
“Her father, Ali Larijani, is a senior official of the Islamic Republic of Iran who openly calls for violence against Americans,” Carter said on X.

Give her to the parents of slaughtered Iranian citizens.
Let them go “Hamas” on her.
I’m not going to argue that this particular person should be in this country in the first place let alone employed as a medical school professor. But, in general, the notion that a child could be fired from their job because their parent is an a-hole kinda rubs me the wrong way. It’s long been a principal of basic fairness that people are treated as individuals. Family members are not punished for each other’s wrongdoing with which they were uninvolved. In other words, we didn’t imprison Stalin’s daughter for her old man’s crimes when she relocated here. I hope that there’s some reason for this woman’s employment termination other than her pop is monster.

Who is Fatemeh Ardeshir Larijani, and why is the Trump administration reviewing her immigration status? That question is now becoming a public debate in the US, after viral petitions demanded action against relatives of Iran’s ruling elite living in America. The White House has confirmed it is “reviewing” immigration benefits granted to Iranians under the Biden administration, following online campaigns calling for the deportation of family members of senior Iranian officials.
One of the most important names is Fatemeh Ardeshir Larijani, the daughter of Ali Larijani, a powerful figure in Iran’s leadership and the current secretary of the country’s Supreme National Security Council More than 41,000 people have signed a Change.org petition urging President Donald Trump to deport Ardeshir Larijani. Supporters claim that relatives of Iran’s ruling class should not enjoy life in the US while ordinary Iranians face repression at home.
Ali Larijani recently faced backlash after posting online that Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were “the main killers of the people of Iran”. His remarks came as Iran’s authorities were accused of killing thousands of protesters during recent unrest. Fatemeh Ardeshir Larijani is a specialised cancer doctor and works at Emory University’s Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta, Georgia.
According to Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, she was granted a green card in 2021 during Joe Biden’s presidency.
“The Trump Administration is reviewing all immigration benefits granted under former Biden administration to aliens from Countries of Concern including Iran,” McLaughlin told Newsweek. Emory University confirmed her employment but declined to comment further on the political row. “We are aware of media coverage regarding one of our physicians,” said Andrea Clement, associate director of public relations at the Winship Cancer Institute. They added: “Emory employees are hired in full compliance with applicable state and federal laws and other applicable requirements, including our commitment to advancing patient care, research, and teaching.”
Sometimes burqas are a good thing.
I agree, If I am a card carrying member of Assholes Anonymous there is no rational reason someone should fire my adult kids because of it.
But if my 14 year old kids take my guns and car and then make really bad decisions than yes there should be consequences for me.
I knew an Iranian guy who was the former head of the Shaws’ secret police, many people think he was an asshole but his son was/is one of the nicest people you will ever meet
Do you know about Ilhan Omar’s daddy? She’s in Congress.
I agree with you. The article doesn’t give much information, but I hope there was something more going on. If not, this amounts to ‘kin punishment’; and that’s the sort of thing that Nazis and Communists do.
Who lets this sh*t into the country? (rhetorical question).
I assume she is here on a Green Card. If that is the case, it is my understanding that she can be sent home any time, for any reason the American government sees fit to use.
I remember when the Iranians suddenly decided to leave the USA in 1979, Many of my friends bought their cars for next to nothing. There were bargains galore. It would be a shame if that happened again. NOT
Well, so far we haven’t heard that the Government is sending her home; only that Emory fired her.
And we don’t even know why.
That is correct. People are treating it as if it were the government on this thread.
If that is the case, then it is an issue with Emory, and they probably didn’t want the publicity such as the people picketing outside the organization.
If that is true, screw her. She should not only be fired but she should be deported immediately.
I am tolerant of people working here in various roles under legal immigration statuses, but that means shut your damned mouth, keep your head down, and do your job, especially regarding the government of the host country.
If she had never said anything and was simply doing what she was here to do, fine.
But she wasn't.
She was injecting herself into the politics of the generous country hosting her, which various sites such as freedomforum.org say is limited if you are a non-citizen. It is not unlimited the way ours is (or should be).
Isn’t Ali Larijani the father?
I agree so long as she has repudiated her father’s politics, etc., and is free of his influence. If she supports radical Islam and is still linked to the Iranian Islamic Republic, fire and deport.
End all immigration for 50 years.
Yup.
