MARINA, Calif. — Community leaders in Monterey County are calling for transparency and accountability after an officer fatally shot a man.
On Jan. 18, 2026, 31-year-old Ronald Chyron Tinsley was fatally shot by Marina police during a traffic stop near Marina Heights Drive and Arroyo Drive.
The Monterey County Black Caucus (MCBC) is calling for the immediate release of all available body camera footage, all physical/digital evidence, and a thorough investigation of the case.
"We are deeply concerned by attempts to shift public focus toward Chyron’s past rather than the conduct of law enforcement," MCBC wrote in a statement. "A person’s prior history does not determine the value of their life, nor does it justify the use of fatal force. Every individual is entitled to due process and to be treated with dignity and humanity."

Marina man wanted for allegedly battering woman, threatening to shoot her
MARINA, Calif. (KION) Marina police are looking for a man wanted on domestic violence, brandishing a handgun, being a felon in possession of a handgun, criminal threats and violation of a domestic violence protective order charges.
Police responded to the 300 block of Carmel Avenue shortly before 8:30 p.m. Thursday after a woman reported that someone texted her asking for help at that location. County communications found that there had been several prior domestic violence incidents involving a woman and 26-year-old Ronald Tinsley at the address, and a criminal protective order was in effect.
When officers got there, they found a woman at the front door, who they said was "hysterical and terrified," and they helped her and her two children get to safety.
The woman said Tinsley was in the house and had battered her, brandished a gun at her and threatened to shoot her.
Law enforcement set up a perimeter and tried to get Tinsley to surrender, but during a search, they found that he was no longer at the home.
A person’s prior history does not determine the value of their life.
That’s like saying Jack the ripper was a nice guy.
Resisting arrest has its downsides.
“Ronald Chyron Tinsley”
Has his brother Veyron commented yet?
True.
But it will tell you a LOT about whether this person is dangerous to society in general and police in particular.
Thank GOD for the prevalence of body cam footage.
Body cameras should be on from the instant the officer goes on duty to the instant he goes off duty. Tampering with body cameras or body camera data should be a felony crime. The data, properly captured and safeguarded, protects officers against false accusation by criminals and protects citizens against misconduct by uniformed criminals.
I agree 100% with your post. 100%.
The Left has started to come out against police body cams, ostensibly on privacy grounds, but really because they show police to be in the right in the vast majority of cases.
It makes it hard for the Leftist narrative to prevail when there is good camera video refuting that narrative.
“A person’s prior history does not determine the value of their life...”
It does if the prior history is current reality.
That's hilarious. The left initially clamored for them, hoping to show police misconduct. And they do, in fact, sometimes show police misconduct. And they do, sometimes, malfunction at very convenient times for miscreants in uniform.
Much more often, though, they show common criminals engaged in common criminal behavior and experiencing the consequences thereof. This, the left doesn't seem to like.
Body cameras are one of the few examples of government putting cameras everywhere that I support.
👍
How about “transparency and accountability” in all the Somali crooks in CA? in MN?
Never a call to action for anything other than White Man Baad.
Always funny and true.
80/20 that the bodycam footage shows that the decedent was acting a fool and that the cops were fully justified.
surprised they didn’t put roman numerals behind his name to make him upper crust “Ronald Chyron Tinsley the II or the III”
The best part about that is that it was the Left demanding cameras in the first place, assuming that they would then get infinite recordings of the disgusting behavior they always accuse the cops of.
No mute button.
MONTEREY COUNTY BLACK CAUCUS???????
CENSUS SAYS THE COUNTY IS 3.2 % BLACK
So it wasn’t a traffic stop for some minor violation that went bad, rather it was police locating a violent armed man who’d broken the law several ways, and attempting to arrest him.
