Greenlanders speak out against Danish rule after decades of forced sterilization, poor living conditions: ‘They stole our future’

NUUK, Greenland — Native Greenlander Amarok Petersen was 27 years old when she learned the gut-wrenching truth about why she couldn’t have children — and that Denmark was to blame.

Suffering from severe uterine problems, a medical doctor discovered an IUD birth control device in her body that she didn’t know she had.

Danish doctors had implanted it when she was just 13 as part of a population control program for thousands of native Greenlandic girls and women.

While the government of Denmark officially apologized last year for decades of forced sterilization of Indigenous women and girls, the horrific mistreatment has cast a long shadow on the island that has become the center of an international ownership fight.

How long has this been going on!- Ace

Thing is, they have a population of only 57,000 and a vast amount of land, so why try and control their women's fertility?

As far as can be found Denmark ran a forced contraception program in Greenland from the 1960s to the 1970s (and in some cases later), which included the insertion of intrauterine devices (IUDs) into thousands of Inuit women and girls, many without their consent or knowledge. This campaign has been widely described as a form of forced sterilization or a step that resulted in widespread infertility for the victims. And the countries sending troops into Greenland are members and using NATO as an excuse to continue the practice of forced sterilization in girls as young as 12.

The IUDs used were often designed for adult women who had already given birth, causing severe pain, internal bleeding, infections, and in many cases, permanent infertility or the need for a hysterectomy.

The program was primarily motivated by economic considerations, as Danish authorities sought to alleviate the costs associated with providing social welfare, schools, and healthcare to a rapidly growing population in Greenland.

So the Danish government used it to keep the locals from growing and stepping out on their future. This conflicts with the NATO policy on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV), deliberately, and strategically used to target civilians. It inflicts long-term trauma on individuals and families, destroys the social fabric of communities, triggers displacement, fuels armed actors’ activities and fosters prolonged conflict and instability.

NATO condemns all acts of conflict-related sexual violence employed by state and non-state actors, including as a tactic of war and a tactic of terrorism, and is committed to responding to CRSV in line with all relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions, and in accordance with the United Nations Women, Peace and Security agenda.

Probably been poking heads and sucking brains if the international left has had anything to say about it.

“ OMG...HOW MUCH EVIL IS THERE IN THE WORLD THAT WE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT????”

Most of the larger problems in the world have a single source, GOVERNMENT. Beyond a minimum size, government becomes a cancer.

Note when Denmark’s government finally got around to apologizing for the Spiral Case.

And the financial recompense for victims.

The timing of both the apology and the insulting amount of compensation is not a coinkydink.

“While the government of Denmark officially apologized last year for decades of forced sterilization of Indigenous women and girls”.

Ok, everything’s all better now, the Danes apologized.
Seriously these bastards should all be in a prison at the coldest part of Greenland.

Thing is, they have a population of only 57,000 and a vast amount of land, so why try and control their women's fertility?

Two reasons:

1. 99% of the land is practically uninhabitable - so the raw size figures are unimportant.

2. The Greenlanders are in a sorry state, their society is as bad as any that of the Indians in any U.S. reservation. Think "alcoholism," etc. Most of the births were illegitimate - and worse. They are not self-sustaining. Most Greenlanders are / should be wards of the State.

Regards,

Way too much. We the civilized, in order to insure a better world, have to confront it.

Here we go again, another reason to conduct more nation building. Iraq 2, Afghanistan, et al. If we “invade” it’d be no different than Russia invading Ukraine, China (should they choose) invading Hong Kong or Taiwan. But some will make excuses and reasons why this is so much different.

Not our people, not our problem.

Grok:

In summary:
Ice-covered/uninhabitable: ~80%
Ice-free: ~20% (but much of this is still harsh and largely unused)
Truly useful/habitable for permanent human settlement:

Effectively a very small percentage (often cited as low single digits), with the population density extremely low even in those coastal areas.

My guess is because a high percentage of the native population is on welfare, and they do it to keep their costs down.
