The South Carolina measles outbreak is growing at an astounding speed.

“Over the last seven to nine days, we’ve had upwards of over 200 new cases. That’s doubled just in the last week,” Dr. Johnathon Elkes, an emergency medicine physician at Prisma Health in Greenville, South Carolina, said during a media briefing Friday. “We feel like we’re really kind of staring over the edge, knowing that this is about to get a lot worse.”...

The number of cases is expected to grow. The health department’s report only reflects the number of people whose illness has been confirmed as measles by a lab.

For those not old enough to remember the measles, there is a big difference between red measles (rubeola) and German measles (rubella). German measles are a rather mild disease. Red measles are potentially fatal. At one time they were a prominent cause of death in the United States, responsible for thousands of death every year.

A South Carolina outbreak can’t be blamed on Orthodox Jews or the REAL Amish.

I have had commie measles and germurman measles. Wonder if there are rising sun measles lying in wait? Also had fowl pox during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It is a wonder I am still alive. And I didn’t use a helmet when I rode my bicycle. I am a miracle.

I roller-skated without a helmet OR wrist guards and survived. I also had measles and German measles before age 14 with no sequela. OGs like us are pretty tough, lol.

I’d look at the hordes of illegals who flooded our border in the last few yrs as the main culprits. Agents tested them for Covid & asked if they wanted to get the jab but many refused. I doubt they vaccinate their kids for childhood illnesses at the rates the schools demand citizens do.

Likewise...never rollerskated but started driving a stick shift garden tractor at age 9 and running its cutting blades a year later.

Doubling every week, 200 new cases in 9 days. This means that 1 week ago there were 200 cases and now there are 400. In seven days there will be 800. In a month 6400. The same math was used to scare us about Covid. The number of new cases was doubled every week until everyone would have it. What they don’t say is that after a while the number of cases goes down because people get over it. Eventually it will stop spreading because people will adapt immunologically and those that have already had it aren’t eligible to get it again.

The same people who are getting people upset about measles are the ones who decide that every chicken must die to prevent avian flu.

And birth defects. Everyone forgets that unvaccinated pregnant women are at terrible risk of birth defects.

Does nobody remember March of Dimes?

I’m so proud of my state’s Dept. of Health. Funny, they didn’t seem to have a problem with releasing Covid numbers county by county during the China virus days.

My sister and I had measles and chicken pox.

AND, no bike helmets, no swimming lessons, no seatbelts, left our homes early morning to play all day with friends, drank from garden hoses - still here!!!!!

That being said- what is going on in SC and NC with the air quality?

I saw warnings about SC several days ago and air quality in NC was poor, now fair. There are no fires or anything, just had rain a few days ago. What is going on with the air pollution in NC and SC???

And yet, I survived three cases of measles, two as a kid and one as a freshman in college. I had both types, but I don’t remember which I had twice.

"German measles are a rather mild disease. "

Not if you're an infant

During the last major rubella epidemic in the United States from 1964 to 1965, an estimated:
11,000 pregnant women lost their babies
2,100 newborns died
20,000 babies were born with congenital rubella syndrome (CRS)

I had both kinds. When I got the red measles my Mom had to keep the blinds in my room closed because you can go blind if there’s too much light.

My brother had a very high fever as an infant with the measles. He has been intellectually impaired his whole life.

That’s so sad and it must of been agony for your mother watching it.
I’m thankful I didn’t have to watch my child go through that.
