Trump steps back from the brink with Iran: President deescalates threat of military action but is hit with backlash for not standing firm with executed Iranians

Donald Trump has stepped back from the brink with Iran after receiving reassurances that Tehran is halting its planned execution of protesters.

Despite appearing to retreat from his earlier red line, Trump signaled he could still order strikes against the ayatollah’s regime, saying his administration was closely monitoring the bloody crackdown which has left at least 2,500 protesters dead.

'We're going to watch and see what the process is. But we were given a very good, very good statement by people that are, aware of what's going on,' Trump added when pressed on if he would use military action on the Middle Eastern rival.

This is the second chance blown to get rid of the Ayatollahs. How many in the Administration are telling Trump they are too tough to fight?

He kept saying ‘help is on the way’, when there were reports of several thousand Iranians already dead. I support American intervention when it’s the wise thing to do, but we may have over promised a Venezuelan “Swooping Down” type of rescue, when that was not practical or prudent.

Don’t worry. Trump will do it.
Iran will be hit hard. There is no other way. Trump has morality on his side.

This idea bombing our way to a regime change is idiotic to begin with.

The only regime that would work would have to come from the people. Give them arms.

But, bombing the hell out of Iran will simply result in another regime that is just as anti-American taking its place if the present one falls.

It's not possible to bomb our way into a Western friendly democracy in the middle east.

Both the US, and the MAGA part of the US are divided on how much “cowboy” action the US should take...in Venezuela...in Cuba...in Iran... in Nigeria ... in Danish protectorate. In the recent past there was much division over how much to do in Ukraine-Russia.

There are the military considerations, the international political considerations, the domestic political considerations, the congressional considerations.

I have no problem with what we did in Venezuela. Biden had a price on Maduro's head before President Trump...$25,000...raised it to %50,000.

Iran....we did what needed to be done...let Iran's neighbors take care of them...along with the people.

"blobblegriz sagliteag pterubb Ignore them too?"

It's far easier to ignore Plandemic noob signups.

But just to play with mice, this is the Post story:

"The president declined to rule out military action, saying, “we are going to watch and see what the process is — but we were given a very good statement by people that are aware of what’s going on.”

It was not immediately clear how Tehran communicated with the Trump administration, but an Iranian official last weekend contacted special envoy Steve Witkoff, proposing diplomatic talks — opening a fleeting window in which a US-Iran summit was due to occur, before Trump axed the plan as the reported protest death toll soared past 2,000 this week.

A source close to Soltani’s family told IranWire that a relative who works as an attorney attempted to represent him in rushed proceedings, but was told, “There is no file to review. We announced that anyone arrested in the protests would be executed.”

A cousin of Soltani also told the Guardian that Iranian prison authorities said his execution has been postponed.

Trump’s indication of a possible reprieve for the Iranian government comes despite signs that a strike is imminent — including a drawdown of US personnel in nearby Qatar, the closure of the UK embassy in Tehran."

So Trump buying another 48 hours to put assets in place is bad, how, exactly?

Other reports before the internet and Starlink were cut off put the dead at 20,000. But that apparently is not enough for 47’s red line and so much for his apparently worthless “help is on the way”.

Trump is just buying time until our assets are in place. I am guessing that Iran will get its just comeuppance.

Not completely true, I saw what he said. He said they say they are not going to kill anyone, nor are they going to hang anyone. To which he responded we will be watching.

I like that Trump uses the military judiciously. He also allows them the room to change or become overly confident, still encourage the Irainians to create havoc, and see what they will do.

Fools rush in. While thinking people examine options, and look for ways to surprise their enemies, with minimum exposure to our military, while delivering the maximum destruction to the targets determined to offer the most effective stike possible.

But he is not out of what took placenor is he unconcerned. Perhaps even the military recommended that the retalliation be held off for now.

The last thing Trump wants is to place American troops on the ground.

“I like that Trump uses the military judiciously. “

Agreed. It also gives Iran plenty of time to believe they have dodged a bullet and then ... whamo. Or not.

Trump likes being unpredictable and it has worked well for him.

What about the 10,000+ already dead ? Are they going to be avenged ?? He did threaten to increase tarrifs on China if they do business with Iran so I guess they are.
