As hate spirals in India, Hindu extremists turn to Christian targets

On Christmas Eve, Hindu hardline groups affiliated with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced a shutdown in the central Indian city of Raipur. The protest was called over allegations of “forced” religious conversions by Christians, a claim frequently levelled against the Christian community despite scant evidence.

That same day, groups of men armed with wooden sticks stormed a shopping mall in Raipur, vandalising Christmas decorations and disrupting celebrations. Police filed a case against 30 to 40 unidentified attackers, but arrested only six. They were released on bail within days and, upon their release, were greeted with public processions, garlands, and chants outside the jail, videos of which circulated widely on social media.

From Al Jazeera, of all places. I've said for years that India has the most Nazi-like society of all modern countries. Mobs there will attack and beat Christians and demand they convert back to Hinduism. And then when confronted that will say with a straight face that the problem is the handful of Christians are forcing people to convert.

“From Al Jazeera, of all places. “

Then you might want to take it with a grain of salt. Who benefits by driving a wedge between India and the US? China, Russia, Pakistan, Qatar and the rest of the muslim middle east.

Nothing new here. The nations that made up India 2000 years ago were almost all Buddhist. Then Thomas and Nathanael/Bartholomew came separately preaching the gospel, establishing Christian communities on both sides of the subcontinent’s peninsula. Then the Hindus, believing that they were losing their subcontinental identity and wanting to MIGA, essentially forced all the Buddhists and Christians out, or massacred them. Christianity shrank to underground communities, while Buddhism fled to Nepal and Burma/Thailand, and from there spread throughout the rest of mainland Asia and Japan. When the Portuguese and later the Brits overcame the Mogul empire, they attempted to spread Christianity, and the Hindus responded with violent attacks, which brought in the British military, and the rest of that is history.

That Hindu fear of losing their religion has been reigniting. To be fair, it is if anything more virulent against Muslims, though the difference is not enough to base anything on.

“Usha Vance, the wife of Vice President JD Vance, was raised Hindu and continues to identify with that faith. JD Vance himself converted to Catholicism after their marriage.”

Thoughts?

JD Vance’s Wife Religion – Is She Catholic?

Many Americans are curious about the religion of JD Vance’s wife, wondering if she is Catholic.

JD Vance, a U.S. Senator from Ohio and the Vice President, has attracted significant public attention not only for his political career but also for his personal life.

His marriage and family life have often been discussed in the media, particularly in relation to values, beliefs, and religious affiliation.

Understanding the background of his wife can provide context for their shared family life and personal priorities.

JD Vance’s Wife: Her Background and Religion
JD Vance is married to Usha Chilukuri Vance, a lawyer and legal professional who has worked in corporate law.

She was born in the United States and has an Indian-American heritage.

Her family background is culturally rooted in India, which has historically encompassed a diverse range of religious traditions.

Usha Vance has primarily maintained privacy regarding her personal religious practices, focusing public attention on her professional career and family life.

JD Vance’s Wife Religion: Catholic or Otherwise?
There has been public curiosity about whether Usha Vance is Catholic, given JD Vance’s own statements about faith and family.

Based on available information about her upbringing and background, Usha Vance does not identify as Catholic.

Her family’s Indian-American roots suggest she was raised in a cultural environment that may include Hindu traditions, though she has not publicly stated adherence to a particular faith.

JD Vance himself has described his own religious journey in interviews, referencing Christianity and Catholicism as influential in his life, but Usha Vance’s personal religious affiliation is distinct and separate.

Family Life and Shared Values
Despite differences in religious upbringing, JD and Usha Vance share common values centered on family, education, and professional achievement.

The couple has two children, and their family life emphasizes stability, parental involvement, and support for one another’s careers.

Religion, while a component of JD Vance’s personal identity, does not appear to dominate the public narrative around the Vance family.

The couple often presents a unified family front focused on personal development, community involvement, and public service.

Public Appearances and Religious Context
In public appearances, including political events, speeches, and family-focused discussions, Usha Vance has generally been mentioned in relation to her role as a spouse and mother rather than in connection with a religious identity.

JD Vance occasionally references faith in his speeches, citing values shaped by Christian upbringing, but he has not indicated that his wife converted to or actively practices Catholicism.

The couple’s religious life seems private, with emphasis placed on shared ethical and family-oriented principles rather than formal religious observance.

Cultural and Religious Diversity in Their Household
JD and Usha Vance’s household reflects a blend of cultural and potentially religious diversity.

With Usha’s Indian-American heritage and JD’s Ohio upbringing with exposure to Catholicism, the family is positioned at the intersection of multiple cultural influences.

This diversity may inform the family’s perspective on education, cultural understanding, and parenting practices.

It also demonstrates that their shared values are not strictly tied to a single religious tradition.

Clarifying Misconceptions
While JD Vance’s public references to Catholicism may lead some to assume that his wife shares the same faith, this is not accurate.

Usha Vance’s background does not indicate that she was raised Catholic or practices Catholicism.

Instead, her focus has been on professional accomplishments and family life, and she maintains privacy regarding personal beliefs.

Understanding this distinction helps clarify public speculation and confirms that religious affiliation is not a defining aspect of her public persona.

Overview
JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, present a family that balances professional achievement, public service, and family priorities.

Usha Vance is not Catholic, and her personal religious practices, if any, remain private.

The couple shares values rooted in family stability, education, and professional support, rather than a common religious identity.

Again, I am not a Catholic but have run into some limited facts.

JD Vance is a Catholic and said he hopes his wife Usha, a Hindu, will convert someday. All practicing Catholics believe it is a mission to evangelize in order to save souls of nonbelievers when they die.

His wife allows their children to be raised Catholic and to attend Church with him.

Being married in a civil ceremony to a non-Catholic is recognized only on the civil level.

According to a diocese online:
The Catholic Church generally requires Catholics to marry in a Catholic ceremony, so a civil marriage with a non-Catholic is considered invalid (not a sacrament) unless the Catholic party gets special permission (dispensation) from their bishop for the marriage to occur in a non-Catholic setting (like a civil ceremony). Without this dispensation, the Catholic is seen as not truly married in the Church’s eyes, meaning they shouldn’t receive Communion, but a priest can help them get a convalidation, a blessing to make the civil union sacramental.

-—according to most recent reports.

Well, yeah, it is.

It's not either/or. Just because Muslims and Hindus attack Christians, doesn't mean that Jews don't as well.

Jews constantly talk of "the history of Christian anti-Semitism." But if we discuss instances of the reverse, that's "anti-Jooo."

Historically, Indians who migrate to Canada and have Canadian citizenship and/or passport then work in the US. A large percentage of the Indians whom I have worked beside were Canadians. Some were good people and competent in their job. Some were incompetent and some not so good.
