NASA has announced that America is now just days away from a historic return to the moon for the first time in two generations.
The space agency revealed that the earliest Artemis II, the first manned mission to the moon since 1972, will set off on this flight is February 6.
NASA officials noted that the official launch window for Artemis II will remain open from January 31 to February 14, and several alternate dates for the launch have also been picked out.
Artemis II can't launch on just any day. The timing will depend on precise orbital mechanics, such as where Earth and the moon are positioned, rocket performance, and weather conditions near the launch site at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
February 7, 8, 10, and 11 have been chosen as potential backup launch dates. If something prevents the launch in February, NASA has also picked out dates in early March and April for the upcoming moon mission.
Artemis II will be the first space mission with a human crew in 53 years to go beyond low Earth orbit.
It will send NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen on a 10-day journey around the moon and back.
The Artemis II mission will not land on the moon's surface. The first lunar landing in the Artemis program is scheduled for Artemis III, currently planned to take place in 2027.
As early as February 6, the astronauts will launch from Cape Canaveral in an Orion spacecraft, carried by NASA's powerful Space Launch System (SLS) rocket system.
They'll first orbit Earth a couple of times to test the life support equipment and then head toward the moon for a lunar flyby, a close pass without orbiting or landing.

If humans are not on the Moon on Artemis by the end of 2027 we all should pay zero taxes in 2028.
It is time to hold government accountable for its claims.
Wow so I grew up following every detail of the Space Program and here they are planning to go around the moon in a few weeks and this is the first time I’ve seen anything about it.
Imagine how incredibly advanced all the systems must be from when we last did anything like this.
If they had selected SpaceX to do this mission, we would be there already. And a moonbase already started.
What scientific advancements will be accomplished by going back to the moon?
Alice has already merged with the Universe.
They sure have a “diverse” crew, which doesn’t bode well.
Mineral mining.
I wonder if Christina Koch loves her children to the moon and back.
They did. That's what "Starship" is for; SLS is just for the first few flights. Starship is also not even remotely ready to support lunar flights.
“...a historic return to the moon...”

Why?
Last I heard the billion dollar space suits were not ready yet—but who knows.
https://www.cnbc.com/2023/02/22/nasas-3point5-billion-plan-to-redesign-its-aging-spacesuits.html
Let us see—here is a 2025 update:
Oh wait—that article had lots of fluff with no serious status report.
Maybe this article will help:

Oh oh—Collins Aerospace bailed on the project.
More fluff—and then we learn the technology is “proprietary”.
Good luck digging into the details of this stuff.
Return?
How can we return to a place we never went to in the first place ?
The moon holds a key commercial, industrial, and military position in the universe.
Having a base on the moon is sort of like having sailing ships which can reliably cross oceans, and the ability to navigate them.
Imagine how much money Somalis could steal with high IQs.
They call it NASA.
Lol.
I have Unicorns guarding my home because they hold a key commercial, industrial and military position in my neighborhood.
Lol.
If you took 5 seconds to google their bios, nobody on this crew is a DEI hire, all of them have legit backgrounds and experience
The diverse team was assembled by NASA (No-Action Sore Ass).
And the rocket of Artemis II is assembled by Boeing!
I would sh.t my pants if I was a white male astronaut.
Agreed. We should instead go back to Mars and see the flag that Armstrong planted there. (typed in my best Shelia Jackson Lee voice)
Great...now we need to worry about another conspiracy theory concerning the moon landing.
