Bill Gates quietly sent nearly $8 billion to the private foundation of his ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, in what amounts to one of the largest divorce-related payouts ever disclosed.
The $7.88 billion donation was made in 2024 to the Pivotal Philanthropies Foundation, a relatively new nonprofit launched by French Gates, according to a newly released tax filing reviewed by the New York Times’ DealBook.
The filing marks the first time concrete financial terms of the Gateses’ 2021 divorce have been made public following their decision to formally separate their philanthropic work in 2024.

Dating or married?
Think about this: she was dating other men the entire time they were dating.
Guaranteed they weren’t paying $8 billion for it.
They are both more than jerks.
He sent the money to his ex-wife’s charity. Whom I’ll bet has a significant position paying big bucks.
So what?
In the 40s 50s 60s 70s and 80s it was normal to date a number of different men. Date did not equal sex. Date meant to go out, spend time together and decide if one wanted to do that again.
Is she getting big bucks to keep her mouth shut?

I would have also....Some years ago after their divorce, there were pictures online of them at someone’s wedding - they weren’t together but one picture was of her alone walking into the venue and she was dressed like she had shopped at the Salvation Army..really frumpy!!!! Maybe her taste in fashion was as bad as her taste in choosing a mate!
Now I recall - it was their daughter’s wedding. NY state maybe??
Divorce settlements for an ex-wife sure vary a lot depending on who the husband is, I wonder if the wives actually vary so much to account for it.

Googled and found all kind of pics and one of Melinda but can’t copy/paste it....the daughter married an Egyptian equestrian and the ceremony was a Muslim one!!!! Carrying WEIRD into another generation, I guess! They have had a baby...There’s a picture of a multi million dollar home the daughter bought...guess everything - wedding and all were in Westchester County, NY.
This is true. Some called it “Going steady”, but even then, there may be exceptions to the routine, and you would see other people for specific occasions.
Both my exs are better looking than Melinda.
lol. I bet she is a shareholder and CEO of this “charity” for massive bucks. Bill gets to write it off. He is just washing the divorce money as a charitable contribution.
If one agreed to date steadily one was exclusive, Frat pins, letter sweaters, class rings were a sign of steady dating.
However dating one boy on Friday and another on Saturday was not a problem. Young men competed.
Young women chose.
