New: Greenland and Denmark Request Urgent Meeting With SecState Rubio
Red State ^ | 01/06/2026 | Ward Clark

Posted on 01/06/2026 9:37:49 PM PST by SeekAndFind

Apparently, Tuesday was Greenland Day in the news cycle.

On that day, not only did a mining company in Greenland literally strike gold, but the Danish and Greenland Ministers for Foreign Affairs have both reached out for what they describe as a special meeting with our Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is the Chuck Berry of Washington: The hardest-working guy in government, except perhaps the president.

It's not known what Denmark and Greenland wish to discuss, but whatever it is, they seem to want to do it sooner rather than later

Greenland and Denmark have reportedly requested a special meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. At least that's what Greenland's foreign minister, Vivian Motzfeldt, posted on social media on Tuesday

(They may want to get in line. Apparently, they haven't heard he's running everything from the National Archives to Venezuela these days.)

Here's what she had to say (and keep in mind that her original message was a mix of Danish and Greenlandic, so I used AI to translate):

The Government of Greenland and the Danish Government have contacted the U.S. Department of State with a request for an early ministerial meeting between the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Greenlandic Minister for Foreign Affairs and Research Vivian Motzfeldt, and the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the United States’ striking statements regarding Greenland.

Up to now, it has not been possible for the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to meet with the Government of Greenland, even though the Government of Greenland and the Danish Government have repeatedly, throughout 2025, requested a meeting at the foreign-minister level.

It's a safe bet that annexing Greenland to the USA won't be on the agenda.

Likely, at least part of this meeting between people at this level (a Foreign Minister is Euro-speak for someone who is the equivalent of our Secretary of State) will be for Denmark and Greenland to "express concern" over comments recently made by President Trump. Then again, there will certainly be more to it than that; ministerial and administration officials at this level don't get together just for an airing of grievances. Although, some of those comments, delivered to the press while in Air Force One, were rather direct:

🚨 JUST IN: Denmark is PANICKING after President Trump insisted the US NEEDS Greenland, and Denmark isn't treating it properly

"We need Greenland! For national security."

"You know what Denmark did to 'boost security?!' Added ONE MORE DOG SLED! It's true!" 😭

"Greenland is COVERED with Russian and Chinese ships all over the place!"

"Denmark is NOT gonna be able to do it."

The post continues:

Greenland is COVERED with Russian and Chinese ships all over the place!

Denmark is NOT gonna be able to do it.

The president's remarks in full were:

I will say this about Greenland. We need Greenland from a national security situation. It's so strategic. Right now, Greenland is covered with Russian and Chinese ships all over the place. We need Greenland from the standpoint of national security. And Denmark is not going to be able to do it, I can tell you. You know what Denmark did recently? To boost up security on Greenland? They added one more dog sled. It's true! They thought that was a great move.

Responding to a question from one of the press pool:

I don't want to talk about Greenland right now. I just say this: We need Greenland from the standpoint of national security. And the European Union needs us to have it. And they know that.

There are parts of that statement that probably made both the Danish and Greenlandic governments perk up and ask, "Wait, what?" The president is, of course, right about Greenland's strategic value; just as Alaska is the crown of the Pacific, Greenland, while less habitable except along the coasts, is the crown of the Atlantic. Greenland is in the fortunate spot of controlling the Atlantic entries into the Arctic Ocean, and in the coming years, that's only going to be more and more valuable.

It will be interesting to see if SecState Rubio can carve out time for this meeting (he will) and what's going to be discussed (we don't know.)

Stay tuned!

Are those statements of JD Vance from a visit he and his wife went on about a year ago? The tone of his remarks sounds awfully familiar.

According to a video I saw earlier, the end game is to get additional military bases in Greenland to counter China and Russia in the North Atlantic.

Why is a tiny country like Denmark still keeping a huge country like Greenland as a colony in 2026 anyway?

We should have kept it after WW2, in exchange for defeating the Germans, who occupied Denmark, and for more Marshall Plan aid. Missed opportunity.

We shouldn’t go for a lease. Only ownership. Leasing territory is bad.

I know we pay Cuba for Gitmo every year.

The US sends the Cubans a check for around $4,000 per year for rent on Gitmo, and the Cubans typically refuse to cash the checks as a kind of protest. I do believe that they accidentally cashed one once.

I don’t buy it. I think Trump is looking to purchase Greenland.

(I know, pretty cheeky of me to question the claims of a “video”.)

"Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is the Chuck Berry of Washington"

Chuck Berry? Wasn't it James Brown who was known as the "hardest working man in show business"?

Rubio’s also the current National Security Advisor, which means he runs the National Security Council and staff as well.

Ladies! Greenland may be the only country in the world with more senior men than women:

65 years and over: 1.13 male(s)/female

Greenland is all good and well, but when are we going to retake NYC and IL and CA? Those places are barely American anymore. Full of foreigners, lots of strange ideas, languages, and adherents to communism.
