A 32-year-old Tennessee nurse practitioner fatally shot her two young sons and 88-year-old grandmother before killing herself in a horrific quadruple murder-suicide, authorities said.
Deputies with the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office discovered the four bodies during a welfare check at a home in Waverly on Friday morning, with all of them suffering gunshot wounds, authorities said.
The dead were identified as Arius Thompson, 4, Isaiah Johnson, 13, Evelyn Johnson, 88, and Heather Thompson, 32.
Preliminary evidence indicates that Heather — who was estranged from the boys’ dad — killed the three victims before herself, authorities said.
Sheriff Chris Davis said investigators found no sign of forced entry and believe no one else was involved.
He said Evelyn was Heather’s grandmother.
The sheriff said there had been no prior domestic-violence or mental health-related calls to the residence and declined to release a possible motive as the investigation continued.
Davis grew emotional when addressing reporters, telling WSMV-TV that he knew the family.
“Here again, small-town America. Here again, I know the families. So, we’re going to do right by them,” he said.
“We’re going to respect them. We’re going to do right by them.”
The sheriff’s office is being assisted by the state’s Bureau of Investigation.

"Arius Thompson, 4, and Isaiah Johnson, 13, were shot dead by their mother."
What was it? The old “I lost custody, so if I can’t have them on my terms, then nobody can have them at all!”
Why can’t these selfish murderers just start with themselves and leave the innocents out of their demented actions?
RIP boys and Grandma
I wonder if she was taking psych meds.
It sounds like she was taking care of three people without help from the father.
Jeremiah, the dad, did not want to be around them, it seems.
Think of it as a very late-term abortion ...
Obviously she had mental problems.
No matter who might be the perp and what is left in the way of written clues, I first want to know what is in the blood (pushed or prescribed) and what's in the medicine cabinet.
Next, what about counselling or mental health issues.
This info seems to be so rarely forthcoming, but it should be as it is true news.
The things police and fire personnel have to see and handle...especially in small towns and rural areas where they know everyone. Sometimes they pull up and find their own relatives or friends dead, dying or badly injured.
Like every other case of a mother slaughtering her child(ren).
As opposed to a joyful happy murder suicide? Fookin’ jounalists.
Are they sure? She might have killed herself first.
A mostly peaceful murder suicide.
I agree.

Still working for me.
