With less than a year before the 2026 midterm elections, the already precarious balance of power in Congress will come down to a few, critical battleground races.
In the Senate, where Republicans hold a 53-47 majority, Democrats would need to gain four seats to take control of the chamber while the GOP — who can count on Vice President Vance to break a tie — could stand to lose no more than three.
In the traditionally more volatile House of Representatives, Democrats have a clear shot at gaining the majority, experts said. They have now seized a lead of 4 percentage points in polling on voters’ “generic” party preference for 2026, according to the RealClearPolitics average.

Unlike many here, I don’t think that Trump lost in 2020 because of cheating. Was there cheating? Definitely. Was there enough to swing the election? I don’t think so. And I think that simply reflexively saying “We wuz robbed!” isn’t helpful for planning for the future. However, I do think that we probably lost both Senate seats in Georgia in 2020 due to cheating. Since one of them was a special election, only one of the two will be contested in 2026. If we keep our guard up, a victory here should put a damper on possible losses elsewhere. Even if we lose the House of Representatives, retaining the Senate will help immensely with possible Supreme Court vacancies, which could be incredibly important for decades to come.

And it’s not like the election is tomorrow and it’s all over. So much can happen between now and then that the likelihood is the GOP will gain seats.

Right. Look at Georgia. It was decided by something like 11,000 votes. And there are hundreds of thousands of votes that should never have been counted. And I believe the Senatorial races were corrupt as well.

Cheating is all they can do. They have no solutions, no good ideas, they support criminals, and are on the wrong side of every issue. They are the scourge of this country. God help us if they ever get back in power.
Correct. Any place that the margin of victory will likely be very close, the Democrats will steal. This is the equivalent of predicting the Super Bowl champion before the playoffs start.

Absolute best case for Dems would be 2-3 pickup and it’s not likely they will get that at all but if they should GOP retains power.
Ask an AI how many GOP House seats in 2024 were won by less than 5%, and how many Dem seats in 2024 were won by less than 5%.
