Russia's losses in Ukraine rise faster than ever as US pushes for peace deal
BBC ^ | Dec 29 2025 | Olga Ivshina

Over the past 10 months, Russian losses in the war with Ukraine have been growing faster than any time since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, BBC analysis suggests.

As peace efforts intensified in 2025 under pressure from US President Donald Trump's administration, 40% more obituaries of soldiers were published in Russian sources compared with the previous year.

Overall, the BBC has confirmed the names of almost 160,000 people killed fighting on Russia's side in Ukraine.

BBC News Russian has been counting Russian war losses together with independent outlet Mediazona and a group of volunteers since February 2022. We keep a list of named individuals whose deaths we were able to confirm using official reports, newspapers, social media, and new memorials and graves.

The real death toll is believed to be much higher, and military experts we have consulted believe our analysis of cemeteries, war memorials and obituaries might represent 45-65% of the total.

That would put the number of Russian deaths at between 243,000 and 352,000.

Putin will sacrifice the last Russian to liberate Ukraine.
But I’m sure it’s not true and Russia has lost no soldiers in four years of wave attacks.

Thank God all the dead Russians and Ukrainians will never march in a gay pride parade.

Putin has his eye squarely on the ball.

All because the EU/Brussels elites need a thirty year war to cling to power, at the end of which they intend to steal all Russia's stuff.

Phony “war”....phony reporting, false flags, all meant to pocket foreign aid.....the somali’s are criminal scumbunnies , but this fake war is a crock also.
We ARE sort of living in a simulation...but simulated “issues” meant to pry bucks from the “concerned” population.
So phony day care, phony health care, phoney students, phoney crisis in gender identity, phoney “homeless” issues never resolved, a nearly 4 year old invasion to get 1,800 square miles more? C’mon.
Russia now in control of 20% of Ukraine. Some occupation. Some war. Really doing a great job. Got 20% after fighting since 2014 total....what a juggernaut!

Latest monthly body exchange:

MOSCOW/KYIV, Dec 19 (Reuters) - Ukraine and Russia have carried out a new exchange of bodies of dead soldiers, Ukrainian and Russian officials said on Friday.

Kremlin aide Vladimir Medinsky said Russia had handed over to Ukraine the remains of 1,000 Ukrainian servicemen and had received the bodies of 26 Russian soldiers from Kyiv.

Vladimir Medinsky made a major mistake. Next time he needs to mention -26 in order to correct it.

There hasn't been a country that has put out more verifiably refuted propaganda about the war in Ukraine than the British media.

No one with half a brain believes any British source is credible.

But, since you cited the BBC, it and Mediazona, run by a Russian dissent, have only been able to verify this many Russian deaths:

https://en.zona.media/article/2025/12/19/casualties_eng-trl

RECORDED NAMES COUNT
156,161
+ 2,990
04 Dec — 18 Dec

And, here are the official body exchange figures between Russia and Ukraine:

Key Details from Late 2025 Exchanges:

December 2025: Russia returned 1,003 Ukrainian bodies; Ukraine returned 26 Russian bodies.

November 2025: Russia returned 1,000 Ukrainian bodies for 30 Russian bodies.

March-April 2025: Reports show exchanges like 909 Ukrainian for 43 Russian (March 28) and 757 Ukrainian for 49 Russian (Jan 24).

Get it? The death rate has overwhelmingly been in Russia's favor.

And, Ukraine is running of manpower to sustain the war.

Keep up with the lies:

Ukrainian forces under ‘intense’ pressure in south, as troop shortage bites

Ukrainian forces are under growing pressure in the south of the country, where less well-equipped units are vastly outnumbered by Russian brigades that have taken hundreds of square kilometers of territory in recent weeks.

The Russians have advanced across open countryside in several areas of the southern region of Zaporizhzhia. One Ukrainian officer with the country's security service (SBU) told CNN on Wednesday that the situation in the region was “intense.”

Alternatively - as Russia advances, the Uke and RF casualties are all behind Russian lines, so dead RF bodies are overwhelmingly in the “don’t need to be handed back” group.

That is an admission that Russia is side, exclusively, advancing for as long as the body exchanges have been taking place.

And, that is more proof that Ukraine can only continue to lose lives and territory by continuing this war.

You are underestimating kacaps and their mongol ways. The lines are barely moving, majority of causalities are due to drones and artillery fire. When kacaps are saying that something is black, you can safely assume that it's white. One kacap create a non existing “fact” and then others (2 rus operated account in this thread) spread it around generating disinformation.
