GOP fiscal hawks balk at $5.7B for refugees in 2026 HHS funding bill

When Congress returns next week, lawmakers will have less than a month to pass the remaining nine appropriations bills funding federal agencies in fiscal year 2026.

Already, however, there are signs of further delay, with two Republican senators pledging to vote against the bill for Labor and Health and Human Services due to its inclusion of $5.69 billion for refugee assistance services.

The amount is less than the $6.3 billion that HHS’s Administration of Children and Families, which runs various refugee and asylee support programs, received in fiscal years 2024 and 2025.

But it is still three times higher than funding levels prior to Joe Biden's presidency, leading U.S. Sens. Mike Lee, R-Utah, and Rand Paul, R-Ky., to vocally oppose the Labor-HHS funding bill.

Congressionally-appropriated funding for REA programs – which provide medical, employment, childcare and cash assistance to eligible refugees – amounted to $1.91 billion in fiscal year 2021.

I can't believe this funding is even in the bill! There had better be more than two GOP Senators "balking" this provision. The amount should be zero!

Read the da*n room!

No crap! Idiots.

Zero funding.

It’s hard to lay the blame on Dems when fake, cowardly Republicans are just as bad.

Right now the GOP doesn’t deserve to hold in 2026.

I just wrote the White House and asked why taxpayers are required to spend 1 dam dime on refugees, legals, or illegals. None of them should receive a penny of taxpayer money for anything. I’m so angry right now. About all of it.

At this point we should be clawing back all of the foreign loans that we’ve given to other countries. That includes the United Nations and NATO.

Taxpayers, many of whom are living paycheck to paycheck, shouldn’t be forced to pay 5.7 billion dollars for “refugees”.

We’re 39 trillion dollars in debt.

Screw this. I used to be receptive to allowing some kinds of special dispensations for actual refugees or asylum seekers.

Then, to maximize its theft of elections and power, the Left made it so that ANYONE who came in could be classified as a refugee/asylum seeker.

Screw them. None should be allowed in. This is on the Democrats. They destroyed the already broken system. This is their fault. Let them eat it.
