Boebert hits back at Trump after veto of Colorado water bill, raises retaliation concerns

Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., struck back at President Donald Trump on Tuesday evening after he vetoed a bill that would have lowered payments for a water project in her district — an act Boebert believes could be political retribution.

"President Trump decided to veto a completely non-controversial, bipartisan bill that passed both the House and Senate unanimously. Why? Because nothing says ‘America First’ like denying clean drinking water to 50,000 people in Southeast Colorado many of whom enthusiastically voted for him all three elections," Boebert said in a statement posted by journalist Kyle Clarke.

Pres. Trump, it may be the right time to invite Cong. Boebert to Mar Lago for lunch. Talk to her now, before she follows MTG. Compromise is not a Bad Word.

Boebert is the one who got the exclusion for any Israel boycotters for being able to Bud on any defense contract. She’s the one who got it in the NDAA this year. But with Trump, loyalty is a one-way street. You have to do anything he wants, he never feels the slightest obligation to lift a finger for you. Welcome to the party, Lauren.

The good people of Colorado can pay for their own pipelines.

It’s not Biafra.

That’s the whole problem with Trump. He thinks everything can be solved with lunch at Mar-a-Lago. Sweet talk people, give them a photo op, etc. Unfortunately, we’ve now moved to a place where he actually has to do what he says.
Southern Colorado was devastated by flooding this year. It’s a conservative part of the state. So he flipped them the finger.

Political retribution? Like endless impeachment. Rouge judges. Frivolous lawsuits??

What else was in the bill or what were the riders that might have made the Bill objectionable?

Bobert needs to find a way that Larry Ellison can make a profit off it. Then she’ll get the money for that part of the state.

So was Biden.

The title no.longer impresses or says much about the intelligence or character of the individual occupying the office

President Donald Trump told POLITICO on Wednesday that he vetoed a bipartisan bill to fund a Colorado water project because he views it as a waste of taxpayer money, saying residents are leaving the state under Democratic Colorado Gov. Jared Polis.

Because nothing says ‘America First’ like denying clean drinking water to 50,000 people in Southeast Colorado many of whom enthusiastically voted for him all three elections,"

Boebert nonsense.

People in her district would not be "denied" if they pay for their own water access.

Since when does the Federal government involving themselves in local issues, Make America Great???

I learned this years ago, but google AI summarizes the situation pretty well. In short, entire professional legal lives are spent navigating Colorado's labyrinth of arcane water laws.

Colorado water rights are exceptionally complex, governed by the unique "prior appropriation" doctrine ("first in time, first in right"), requiring court approval (Water Court) for every use, involving intricate priorities, measurement rules, types (absolute, conditional, contract), and significant administrative hurdles for changes, making them a challenging legal and financial undertaking for individuals, farmers, and municipalities.
